Following months of public outcry over the disappearance of a 22-year-old Georgia college student, media outlets have disclosed the final text message that Laken Riley sent to her mother.
Also made public is surveillance footage of her last moments, taken just minutes before she vanished.
The text was sent by the late nursing student at 8:55 a.m., just before she left for a jog on the University of Georgia (UGA) campus.
She never heard from her again, though. Thus, the frantic mother texted, “Please give me a call.” I’m quite concerned about you.
Around 12:07 p.m. on February 22, Riley’s friend made a call to the UGA Police Department. When Riley failed to return from her morning run at the IM Fields that same day, the pal became worried.
Officers responded right away and started searching at around 12:20 p.m.
Riley was soon found in the woods behind Lake Herrick.
In addition to being unconscious, she had obvious cuts on her body. Although officers provided medical assistance, emergency medical personnel arrived and declared her dead.
Following news of Riley’s death, some of her family members posted memorials to her online. The sister of the deceased student, who moved to the Augusta University College of Nursing program in Athens after attending the University of Georgia (UGA) through Spring Semester 2023, sent a heartfelt Instagram message.
From day one, the best sister and my inborn best buddy were together. I know you are currently in heaven with the man you loved the most, but this is unfair, and I will never comprehend it. It’s going to be all for you from now on, even though I’m not sure how I’m going to do it,” wrote Lauren Phillips, Riley’s distraught sister.
Additionally, Magana wrote an homage to Riley on her Instagram page. A carousel of pictures showcasing the two friends’ fond recollections was shared by her. She expressed how much Riley, whom she referred to as her “best friend,” meant to her in her long caption.
