Serena Williams’ Sister Killed in Tragic Incident: Fans Speak Out After Super Bowl Moment

Serena and Venus Williams’ sister, Yetunde Price, was shot in the head by a gang member in Compton, California.

One of the most well-known tennis siblings in history is Serena Williams. Venus and Serena Williams’ sister was cruelly murdered in a deadly drive-by shooting, leaving their family tainted by tragedy.

Serena, 43, went viral after appearing in Kendrick Lamar’s halftime act during the Super Bowl LIX, bringing the terrible incident back to light.

Serena made an appearance on one of the stages during the concert, performing a Crip Walk dance while Kendrick performed “Not Like Us.” It was written as a jab at Kendrick’s adversary Drake, with whom Serena was allegedly romantically involved from 2011 until 2015, and it won a Grammy.

When viewers realized the connections between the dance and the gang that killed her sister, they were a little taken aback when Serena performed the Crip Walk, also known as the C-Walk.

Known as “Sugar Bear,” he was a member of the Los Angeles-based Crips gang and was founded in the 1970s by Robert Jackson.

The Crips were a very violent street gang with a history of drug peddling, robberies, and killings. Members utilized the dance to show their loyalty to the group.

In order to perform this technically challenging task, persons must quickly and intricately move their feet, typically spelling out the work C-R-I-P. After killing a target, members of the Crip gang have used it in a more nefarious manner.

Rappers like Snoop Dogg, Ice-T, and Ice Cube have performed it at their performances throughout the years, allowing it to become ingrained in the West Coast rap community.

has made the decision to do the Crip Walk several times in her life.

Her sister Venus was watching her from the family box as she performed her characteristic dance move on Centre Court following her gold medal win at the 2012 Olympics at Wimbledon.

She did it again when she presented at the ESPY Awards in June of last year.

“Not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar,” she stated, seemingly alluding to her accused ex-boyfriend Drake’s feud with the Compton rapper.

At the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans, Serena performed the C-Walk once more while joining Kendrick for his rendition of “Not Like Us.” “I’m jamming when they play that jam,” she previously stated in reference to the song. “It’s jamming,”

Realization by fans of Serena Williams’ murder of her sister

Some spectators were made aware of the Crips’ ties to the Williams family after Serena’s Crip Walk performance at the Super Bowl, thanks to the shocking death of Yetunde Price.

Venus and Serena had a half-sister named Yetunde. But in 2003, when she was only 31 years old, a Crips gang member shot her in the head during a drive-by shooting.

While parking her SUV, she and her boyfriend had unintentionally parked it in front of a Compton drug house. After becoming suspicious, the Crips gang members who were watching the residence opened fire on the car because they thought it was associated with a rival gang.

Price received one bullet wound to the head and was declared dead in the hospital shortly after.

The day before the third trial for Price’s murder, Martin Edward Maxfield, then 25 years old, entered a no contest plea to voluntary manslaughter. The initial two trials had been mistrialized.

The loss inevitably affected Serena and her family, and in 2004, she told PEOPLE: “She was a wonderful person.” We are handling it in the best way we can. A day is better than another.

When viewers of the Super Bowl learned that a Crip gang member had killed Serena’s sister, they rushed to social media.

A fan commented, “Serena Williams’ sister was killed by a Crip in a drive-by shooting and she had the audacity to Crip Walk during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show… indefensible,” in response to Serena performing the well-known Crip Walk on television.

Another person wrote: “You have the audacity to Crip Walk when your sister was killed by a Crip.”

The third person exclaimed: “Oh my God, why did I only now learn that Crips killed Serena Williams’ sister? “What the f**k?” shows how much she despises Drake.

After being accused of glamorizing gang violence, sister Venus responded, “It was just a dance.”

Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, shared on Instagram after her performance at the 2025 Super Bowl: “Some of you don’t realize how much criticism Serena received for the same dance at Wimbledon thirteen years ago, and it shows. This surpasses the music in importance.
