Ongoing Investigation Into the Death of Gracelyn Vick, 6 — Key Facts So Far

In Saucier, little Gracelyn Vick vanished on Sunday afternoon.

Her family claims that she never returned after playing in the yard outside at midday.

Several rumors are going around the internet.
When she didn’t show up for hours, her family called the police. An emergency search was conducted by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi, and it lasted for almost six hours.

About 40 local volunteers, Gulf Coast Search and Rescue, nearby law enforcement agencies, helicopters, and drones joined the search for Gracelynn.

Unfortunately, later that day, her body was found close to the family’s home.

No one has been taken into custody.
A portion of the family’s property that contained a swing set and places to house livestock was blocked off by deputies. Crime scene investigators worked long into the night to record the scene and collect evidence.

Around 8 p.m., Gracelyn’s body was removed from the property, according to WLOX.

Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley responded on Monday to one of the numerous internet rumors that were going around about the investigation. The body of 6-year-old Gracelynn Vick was found close to her Saucier home, a family relative said.

According to Haley, “it’s too early to determine if foul play is involved in this case, and no one has been arrested as of yet.” “The investigation into this is still ongoing.”

To help identify the cause of Gracelyn’s death, an autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the state crime lab in Biloxi, according to The Clarion-Ledger.

Support for Gracelynn Vick’s bereaved family has been overwhelming on social media since her untimely passing.

Mother’s third loss
To assist pupils at Saucier Elementary in overcoming the devastating loss of their young classmate, grief counselors have been brought in.

Gracelynn is the third child her mother, Vicky Lynn (Wedgeworth) Hutcherson, has lost in recent years, and the anguish is nearly unbearable for her, according to Sun Herald.

Gracelynn’s 13-year-old stepsister, Victoria Hutcherson, lost her life in a tragic crash on U.S. 49 just last year, in March 2024. She was a passenger in a minivan that struck a dump truck while attempting to cross four lanes of traffic, according to the authorities.

According to her family, Victoria, an eighth grader at West Wortham Elementary School, was a loving and protective big sister who loved her siblings.

In July 2021, Gracelynn’s brother, Larry Hart, age 18, passed away from a medical ailment, according to his obituary, causing yet another sadness for the family.

It was such a devastating thing to read. Peace be with you, tiny Gracelynn. Hopefully, the police will be allowed the time and space they need to investigate the incident carefully and calmly.
