The 2025 Academy Awards were jam-packed with unforgettable moments.
Halle Berry ‘got revenge’ on Adrien Brody on the red carpet after 22 years, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande dazzled in their first appearance, and host Conan O’Brien tossed caution to the wind by making dangerous remarks about President Donald Trump.
While on stage alongside Andrew Garfield to present the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, actress Goldie Hawn also revealed a tragic health update in a melancholy moment.
Due to her inability to read the teleprompter, the 79-year-old Oscar winner, who took home the Best Supporting Actress prize for her performance in the 1969 film Cactus Flower, was forced to halt her speech halfway through.

“I was really fortunate to be able to make movies and make people laugh,” she remarked. Perhaps some didn’t, but that’s okay too.
“In the meantime…” After continuing, Hawn paused, turned to face her co-presenter, and veered off course. Alright. Can you read that, sweetie? I’m unable to read that.
After that, the actress declared: “I am totally blind. She said, “I mean, I am,” before disclosing that she had cataracts.
The NHS states that cataracts happen when foggy patches form on the lens, a little clear disc located inside the eye.
These patches enlarge with time, resulting in blurred vision and ultimately blindness.
Although cataracts can occur in persons of any age, they are most common in the elderly because aging causes the proteins in the lens to break down.

Garfield, 41, calmly replied, “OK, I’ve got you,” after she made her admission, and then went on to deliver the awards.
However, it wasn’t the only heartwarming moment the two shared while performing.
Garfield had mentioned earlier in their remarks the amazing effect Hawn’s acting had on his late mother.
After losing his mother Lynn to cancer in 2019, the actor thanked Goldie for providing her with “the most joy, the most comfort” through her roles in movies and television shows.
When their presentation began, he said, “Can I tell you something?”
“Tonight, I feel extremely fortunate because I get to express my sincere gratitude to the person who brought my mother the most happiness and comfort throughout her life.
“You’ve given us happy movies. Over and over again, you have made us feel better and that everything is fine in the world.”
