Wesley’s children, Austin and Dakota, and Christie’s daughter, Megan, were combined to form a lovely family.
They were unaware, however, that their love story would take a different turn, and they would end up adopting Levi, a miraculous baby.
The couple’s tenacity and will were evident throughout the process of getting Levi adopted. The Werts family eagerly awaited the arrival of their baby boy after 16 months of waiting for the adoption process to be completed.
A baby’s dream
But there is a heartwarming twist to Levi’s adoption narrative that makes Christie and her family feel as though their dreams had come true. Wesley’s previous partner and Levi’s biological mother, who was born in Texas in August 2021, struggled with drug use during pregnancy. A victim of addiction and coronavirus-related issues, she tragically died four days after Levi’s early birth at 33 weeks, according to Newsweek.
When Wesley received the heartbreaking news about his ex-wife from her sister, the pair learned about Levi. Christie, who herself had been in foster homes, was committed to giving Levi a secure and caring home.
Amazingly, Christie has recurrent nightmares about a blond baby with blue eyes for three months prior to ever knowing about Levi. Her decision to adopt Levi after learning of his existence was heavily influenced by this dream.
Through Child Protection Services, the Werts family traveled from Ohio to Texas to meet Levi, and their initial encounter was everything Christie could have imagined. “I fell in love the moment I stepped in and saw this kid with the blue eyes and golden hair. The sensation was quite weird. She said that this was her son.
Even though adoption is frequently difficult, particularly for newborns, the Werts family had additional difficulties. The legal process they had to go through, which included the termination of Levi’s biological father’s parental rights, meant selling their Ohio home and moving to Texas for court appearances.
The couple was finally allowed to bring their baby boy home after Levi’s adoption was completed, following 16 months of home inspections, interviews, and court appearances.
Being criticized
Christie was criticized by some internet users, though, who questioned her choice to post the story online despite its endearing content.
“He’s going to see this when he grows up and it’s going to give him a lot of depression and more,” someone said.
