Following complaints, Walmart removes an offensive shirt featuring a hidden curse.
A local Walmart sold an allegedly unpleasant t-shirt, and when several customers pointed out a harsh mistake in the design, the shirt went viral. A image of the green t-shirt at the grocery store with a recycling-friendly feature was posted on Twitter by a user. The phrases “cycle,” “use,” “new,” and “think” were printed on one side of the garment, while a huge RE was featured on the other. In spite of the extremely uplifting wording printed on the t-shirt, it turned out to have accidentally written out a rather offensive word. A Walmart representative told Newsweek, “This was not intentional, and the t-shirt has been removed.” This item was exclusive to Canada, for context.
This inflammatory t-shirt, which retailed for $5 in Canada, was a part of the George fashion line, which the grocery chain has owned since 1999. The brand is rarely seen in North America, but it has achieved great popularity even in the United Kingdom, where it is carried by some ASDA grocery stores. “I need this shirt before Walmart realized what they have done,” said the Twitter user who first brought it to attention. Track down the secret word. The tweet has garnered nearly 14,000 likes and over 1.3 million views thus far. The initial post received thousands of responses from Twitter users. A commenter expressed hope that this was genuine. I’m currently on my way to Walmart. “Oh,” a different commenter wrote. Oh no, how awful. The original advertisement advised those who were unable to grasp the offensive word to “read down.”
offensive t-shirts and products that could have been designed with a little more consideration
It’s worth noting that there have been other instances of offensive designs going widespread on the internet. Similar to this obscene t-shirt, in 2022 people couldn’t stop giggling at a $1.5 million property because of its phallic-shaped swimming pool. In a similar vein, a transparent toilet seat design with dried flowers on it was also rejected. “A transparent toilet seat seems like the worst design decision,” commented on several Redditors’ posts.
“I saw the shirt at a Walmart by my house,” said the original tweeter with the t-shirt. I laughed at it. Many social media users hurried to grab the shirts before they were taken out of the branches after realizing that Walmart would take them out of stock soon. “Knowing Walmart, it’s only a matter of time before they disappear and it’s just a funny little story,” said another customer.
Needless to say, a lot of people laughed a lot on social media about this terrible t-shirt. A Twitter user said, “I laughed aloud when I saw that.” I’m drawn to trees, which is why I desire this. The secret word is only an added bonus. “I always wonder exactly how many layers of approval these things go through,” remarked a different social media user.
There are many who believe that the T-shirt never should have been taken out of the branches. “People have too much time on their hands and questionable minds,” said one person. The pulling of the garment was inappropriate. It was not intended to be read downhill merely by those letters. It speaks more about the speakers of that language than it does about the creator.
Walmart Has A Record Of Offering Dubious Products
It should be noted that Walmart has already drawn criticism for its dubious products. Walmart used to offer provocative t-shirts with sx and dr*s-related captions. Following notification, Walmart said, “This clearly has no business being on our site.” It was offered for sale on our marketplace by independent vendors rather than by Walmart directly. It is obviously against our policy. We’re sorry if the article upset anyone, and it will be removed right away.
The responses to the provocative t-shirts have generally consisted of lighthearted jokes and laughs. “I love the message because it doesn’t beat around the bush,” a commenter said. “They should have removed them from the shelves, retagged them with higher prices, and put them right back!” exclaimed a different person. “I’m 10 x’s more likely to buy one now that someone pointed that out,” a third customer continued.
One more client said, “Wow, folks are just wasting too much time! Where can I buy one now? Regarding the whole mess, one person was fairly calm. “I’m sure more people saw it as more innocent than the swear word people have extracted from it, whether it was an intentional design decision or not.”
