The Controversy That Shook Marjorie Wallace’s Miss World Title

A photograph of a couple having a good time on vacation, two people who appear to have found their place in the world together, could be nothing more than a typical snapshot.

It is simply hard to look at Tom Jones and Marjorie Wallace in the same way again, given everything that we know about them and the mysteries that were kept hidden behind the scenes.

The phrase “not exactly Mr. Faithful”
Tom Jones was a heartthrob who was notorious for his wild lifestyle during the height of his success in the 1960s and 1970s. It is said that he slept with hundreds of different women.

At the height of his fame, Tom, who would later become known as a sex symbol, revealed in the past that he had sexual encounters with 250 different women per year. His affair with Mary Wilson of the Supremes was one of his numerous high-profile affairs. This affair took place during a period of time when interracial partnerships were still considered taboo in a significant portion of the United States.

One thing, however, is that Jones had a devoted wife named Linda at home while he was living out his aspirations of being a rock star. Prior to her untimely death from lung cancer in 2016, they had been married for 59 fruitful years.

In 2015, Sean Smith, a biographer, stated to the Daily Mail that “from the very beginning, he was not exactly Mr Faithful.”

Uncertainty exists on the extent to which Linda was aware of the dark side of her spouse; however, it is certain that she had a feeling that something was not appropriate. During the time that he was on tour, the pair allegedly adhered to a “don’t ask” policy.

The relationship that Jones had with Marjorie Wallace stands out more than the others among his legendary romances, but Jones has never been shy about discussing them.

The very first American to ever win the title of Miss World
One of the women whose name would soon reverberate through the halls of history was Marjorie Wallace, who was born on January 23, 1954. She charmed the globe with her stunning beauty and unmistakable charm, not just as an actor but also as a television host, a model, and a beauty queen.

The divorce of Marjorie’s parents, which occurred when she was just 14 years old, shook her world and sparked a fiercely independent spirit within her.

She demonstrated that she was not scared to follow her own intuition by accompanying a buddy on a road trip that covered 1,200 miles and ended in Miami. She was already wanting adventure. She participated in the typical high school activities, such as competitive swimming and cheerleading, which earned her a reputation for being both motivated and athletic. However, her teenage years were not all about the wild side of things.

Relationships with men were an increasingly significant component of her life as she evolved into an older woman. She moved in with a guitarist from the indie rock band Pure Funk when she was 17 years old, and it was around this time that she began to fully absorb the world of music and rebelliousness.

By becoming the first American woman to ever be elected Miss World, she would solidify her position in the annals of fame in the year 1973. At the Royal Albert Hall in London, Marjorie, who was only 20 years old at the time, triumphed over 53 other rivals.

A trip that would tie her fate with some of the most iconic figures of her time was about to begin, and the title was more than simply a crown; it was the beginning of that adventure.

Getting to know Tom Jones
Tom and Marjorie first met in his dressing room at the London Palladium before to his performance in December 1973. At the time, Marjorie was 19 years old and had just been proclaimed Miss World.

His spokesperson claims that he fell in love with her right away, and that they continued their relationship by going to the Westbury Hotel in Mayfair together. Since Marjorie and Linda’s birthdays were only a few days apart, Tom decided to purchase two bracelets the following month. He gave one to Marjorie and another to Linda.

The American beauty queen was not like any other woman, despite the fact that it was not unusual for Tom to be linked to a variety of women. The statement “This one could really affect me” was reportedly made by Tom to his buddies.

Their public exhibition of devotion, which consisted of kissing on the beach, resulted in Marjorie losing her title in 1974. Tom and Marjorie headed to Barbados for a television broadcast about Miss World. The two individuals, however, denied that they were in love with one another at the time.

The fact that Marjorie was also dating Peter Revson, an American driver for the Indianapolis 500 and Formula One, while she was purportedly engaged to him was an issue for the English organizers of Miss World, who were known for their strictness.

She continued her affair with Tom Jones when she was engaged to Revson, which infuriated the person who established Miss World. In a terrible accident that occurred shortly after that, Revson was killed in a crash as he was participating in a practice run for the 1974 South African Grand Prix. A gold locket that Wallace had presented to the race driver was engraved with the words “If not for you…” and the race driver passed away while he was on his way to the hospital.

A dangerously high dose of sleeping tablets
The passing of Revson was, without a doubt, a traumatic experience for Marjorie; yet, it was not the only sad occurrence that haunted her.

Tom’s relationship with Marjorie came to an end when he became aware that his childhood sweetheart Linda was likely to learn about the affair. Marjorie, who was unable to cope with her grief and heartbreak, took an excessive amount of sleeping pills.

However, Marjorie was put on a kidney dialysis machine in order to assist in the removal of the medicine from her system. A hospital spokesperson indicated that it was impossible to identify the exact number of pills that Marjorie had consumed. For the young lady from a tiny town who had been named the most beautiful person in the world, the tragedy marked the end of a period of six months that had began with victory and ended with anguish.

She was working too hard, according to Marjorie’s agency, which was the root cause of the entire affair. It all became too much for her to handle, especially as she was already dealing with personal difficulties in her life. The agent Jeff Carey was quoted as saying to the Daily Record, “Finally, it all came down and hit her on top of the head and knocked her down.”

Thankfully, Marjorie was able to recover from the overdose, and she has always maintained that she did not try suicide following the incident. Wallace herself stated two years later, “I was depressed and overdosed on a few too many sleeping pills.” Her mother, Alice, stated that her daughter may have felt as though she could not continue on with her life. I never made an attempt to end my life.”

During the time that Marjorie was recuperating in the hospital in Indianapolis, Tom Jones gave her a basket of flowers and good wishes. This is a really interesting fact. It was during this period that Tom was in Las Vegas, where he was performing at the renowned Caesar Palace Hotel. While he was driving, he listened to the radio and heard the news about Marjorie. The news left him feeling extremely shaken. Tom was taken aback by the news, as stated by his spokesperson, Chris Hutchings. After she had recovered, she went to Mexico City to meet him a few months later.

Today, we have Marjorie Wallace.
A lifelong interest in the entertainment industry, Marjorie is now 71 years old.

Following the conclusion of her brief romance with tennis superstar Jimmy Connors, Marjorie relocated to New York City and attempted to embark on a career in television sportscasting with both ABC and CBS. Additionally, she was shown in advertisements for many different businesses, including American Express, Wella, and Ultra Brite.

At a party in 1977, she was introduced to film producer Michael Klein, and one year later, in 1978, the couple tied the knot. Adam was the name of their kid. However, she declined a reporter job on the show a few months later, despite the fact that she had been one of the initial co-anchors on Entertainment Tonight in 1981.

Following the dissolution of her marriage to Klein in 1982, she was supposed to be seeing Richard Cohen, who had previously been married to Tina Sinatra during their marriage. She tied the knot with Donald Soffer, a real estate developer, in 1994, but the couple separated the following year, in 1996.

However, how did things actually come to a close for Tom and Marjorie?

After all these years, Tom, who is now 84 years old, maintained communication with her, as was disclosed by the Sunday Mirror. Recently, they discussed his new position as a judge on The Voice, which he recently started.

“He is very happy to be doing it, and I told him that if it’s as good as the American version, it will be a huge hit,” Marjorie said. “He is an accomplished actor.” She went on to say, “We still remain friends, and we stay in touch quite frequently.” Even though it has been such a long time since we were together, I have no desire to revisit our relationship in the same way that it was before. On the other hand, it is a wonderful experience to talk to him on the phone every once in a while. His career is something that I always keep up with, and I am so happy to hear that he would be mentoring upcoming artists with his expertise. The sound of his voice is really stunning.
