Super Bowl Aftermath: Fans React to Patrick Mahomes’ Tense Moment with Chiefs Teammate

The NFL player was obviously upset about losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl.

NFL player Patrick Mahomes’ disregard for one of his Kansas City Chiefs teammates following their Super Bowl defeat has left many perplexed.

The Philadelphia Eagles easily defeated the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs in the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans on Monday night, humiliating the team.

Obviously angry after the game, star players Travis Kelce and Mahomes were disappointed that they were not able to become the first players to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

Fans, however, are baffled by the reason behind Mahomes’ complete blanking of one of his teammates following the conclusion of the game.

The Chiefs were the favorites going into the NFL season finale because they had already defeated the Eagles in 2023 and the San Francisco 49ers in 2024. However, it wasn’t meant to be, as the Eagles exacted revenge by defeating the defending champs 40–22.

Following the game, quarterback Mahomes took care to thank his bench teammates and express his displeasure at the outcome, but he left out one man.

Fans noticed that the 29-year-old totally neglected running back Samaje Perine in a social media video that showed him welcoming his teammates and shaking hands.

“Anyone know why he passed Perine the way he did?” a fan inquired in response to the incident. He even got to his feet and feels disrespected in any situation.

“He disregarded Perine, a fellow Gator,” another added. It’s not cool.

One also asserted: “The locker room is divided. “Smh.”

Mahomes rushed over to give his close friend Kelce an embrace after spotting him, but other fans quickly pointed out that it was probably an accident.

Mahomes has lost in the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs just twice in five appearances; the other loss occurred in 2021 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, Mahomes acknowledged after the game that his stellar Super Bowl record doesn’t make the defeat any less painful, saying: “There’s no way around it.” Losing a Super Bowl is the worst thing in the world and will affect you for the rest of your career.

“I mean, for the remainder of my career, these two losses will serve as motivation to improve even farther. Because these [Super Bowls] are so rare, you must take advantage of them.

“It’s going to hurt for a while, but how can you respond from it?”

“It is difficult to recover from that at the Super Bowl. I need to take that lesson to heart and work to improve for my future, hopefully, chance.

“I didn’t play to my standard and I have to be better next time.”
