They Are Only Known by Baby Boomers. Are You Aware?
The modern technology we employ is very amazing. Modern gaming systems, laptops, speakers, AirPods, gaming phones, and almost everything else imaginable are available to us. However, a few decades ago, technology appeared very differently. If you are a member of the baby boomer generation, you probably know some of these pictures.
Drive-in movie theaters are still around, but not as frequently as they were in the 1940s and 1950s. Couples, families, and single people poured into cars for a night at the movies throughout these two decades.
Even today, a trip to the drive-in will bring back fond memories. The majority of drive-ins remain in their original locations, complete with vintage snack stands and screens. These days, you play the movie on your car’s radio by tuning into a specific station. However, the audio system was very different in the past.
In the past, people who went to drive-in movies would park next to a metal post that protruded from the ground. Two speakers on wires would be at the top of this post. To hear the movie’s soundtrack, you would reach for the speaker that is nearest to your car window and drag it inside (or as far as it would go).
You can laugh all you like, but for the time, this was fairly sophisticated technology! I still enjoy visiting drive-ins, and looking at pictures like this instantly transports me back to those wonderful times.
