Pope Leo XIV, the late Cardinal Robert Prevost, has been straightforward where he stands on immigration. He thinks everybody deserves to be treated well regardless of origin. This has brought strong disagreements with U.S. leaders such as vice president, JD Vance and former president, Donald Trump .
JD Vance’s Words, Pope Indicates, are not in Accord with Church Teachings on Diversity.
In an earlier year in 2025, JD Vance made a speech in which he discussed “ordo amoris” a Latin for “order of love”. Vance said people should first take care of their own families and fellow citizens and only then become concerned about strangers such as immigrants.

But Pope Leo XIV disagreed with this idea. He thought that love should not be restricted. According to The Daily Beast, the pope enjoyed and shared messages that challenged Vance’s speech. He stood behind Pope Francis’s belief in the love that does not seek favour of whom someone is or from where they are.
The Pope also condemned Trump’s Immigration actions.
Even before assuming the papacy, Leo XIV condemned Donald Trump’s immigration policies. He did not like the way Trump treated people who tried to be in the U.S for safety or better life.
As the New York Post reported, Leo XIV shared numerous posts on social media, which criticized Trump’s actions as cruel—particularly the separation of families at the border. He was also concerned about the way Dreamers were treated young immigrants who grew up in the U.S. but do not have legal status.
The Pope’s Message Is Simple: Love Everyone
Pope Leo XIV believes that looking after others (and in particular, those who are struggling) is the essence of what it means to be Christian. That’s why he makes his voice heard when leaders behave in ways counter to that.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the pope has continued to remind the world that migrants and refugees deserved dignity regardless of their country of origin. His deeds prove that he takes that belief seriously.
A Pope for Compassion
Pope Leo XIV has a straightforward message: It is great to be kind and welcoming to everybody. Nothing in the law, or any political view should take precedence over the command to love our neighbors wherever they come from.
