Marriages just do not always work out.
Many of us invest years in getting to know someone from the inside out, only to have it all end. And this can evoke a wide range of feelings.
That many people decide to change or reinvent themselves following a breakup or divorce is therefore not surprising. Jason Momoa, the actor from Aquaman.
The divorce of Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet
Even though Jason Momoa has enough money to live in luxury, he has undergone a significant lifestyle change since his emotionally tumultuous divorce from Lisa Bonet, choosing to live in a modest and unique way.
Once a well-liked Hollywood couple, Momoa, 44, and Bonet, 56, were known for keeping their romance’s specifics somewhat secret and private, which piqued fans’ interest and made them want to learn more about their romance.
It’s interesting to note that Momoa acknowledged that he first saw Bonet on TV when she played Denise Huxtable in the sitcom The Cosby Show. The aspiring actor reportedly turned to his mother in a state of lust and said, “Mommy, I want that one.”
After mutual acquaintances brought them together at a jazz bar in 2005, Momoa fell in love at first sight. “I literally turned around, and I see her, and she goes, ya know, ‘I’m Lisa,'” he said, describing the encounter vividly on The Late Late Show with James Corden. “Ahhh!” I said as I turned to face my pal. “Dude, I had fireworks going off inside.”
This ceremony signaled the start of their journey together, which included becoming husband and wife in 2017 and starting a family with two children—a son born in 2008 and a daughter born in 2007.
However, this idyllic scenario came crumbling down five years later in January 2022 when the seemingly ideal pair announced their split after 16 years of dating. Bonet filed for divorce in January 2024, two years after they had split up. They will be legally single by July of this year, according to People.
Momoa and Bonet have discussed how their tastes differ, with Momoa favoring adventurous and travel pursuits while Bonet favors comfortable pursuits like cooking, reading, and writing. Even though they broke up, they clarified that they still love each other and are dedicated to their kids.
Jason Momoa’s dramatic change
The Game of Thrones actor said goodbye to the house he formerly lived with his ex-wife after he and Bonet split up, opting instead to live in a van.
Many people are astonished by this sudden change of lifestyle, but Momoa embraces the eco-friendliness and simplicity of his new home by publicly sharing glimpses of his “van life” on social media.
Momoa was sometimes spotted living in his camper van after the divorce, parked close to the house he used to share with Bonet and their kids. During his time away from home filming, this $750,000 Ford RV became a prominent part of his life and was frequently used as a temporary residence, according to the Daily Mail.
On the other hand, Momoa’s desire to lead a nomadic lifestyle is not new. Indeed, in his pre-fame days, he embraced the nomadic attitude by embarking on an exciting adventure around Ireland with a companion.
In a more recent Instagram picture, he shared a peek into his van life, highlighting the eco-friendly features of his living area, such as items devoid of plastic. For added convenience, Momoa parked the van close to a superstore and installed a shower with a hanging shower head on the entrance, demonstrating his inventiveness.
Despite its unusual appearance, Jason Momoa’s “van life” makes sense for someone who takes such a relaxed and carefree approach to life.
