Jamie Lee Curtis sobs after learning a startling truth!
Richard Lewis, a personal friend of Jamie Lee Curtis and actor of Curb Your Enthusiasm, passed unexpectedly on Tuesday at the age of 76 following a heart attack. Jamie Lee Curtis recently shared how saddened she is by his death.
The 65-year-old actress, best known for her role as Laurie Strode in Halloween, costarred with Lewis in the 1989–1992 four-season sitcom Anything But Love.
In an effort to deal with her loss, Curtis shared a lot of heartfelt photos of herself and Lewis on Instagram on Wednesday. In her heartfelt caption, she discussed Lewis’ profound impact on her life and emphasized his significance for her sobriety. Curtis just celebrated 25 years sober after beating an opioid addiction, and she gave Lewis credit for helping her achieve this milestone.
“I just found out that my friend Richard Lewis passed away,” Curtis remarked. “I still distinctly remember where I was on Sunset Boulevard when I saw his poster advertising a stand-up special.” During the casting process for the ABC pilot Anything But Love, I pushed the casting staff to bring him in to try out for the role of Marty Gold, my closest friend and future boyfriend.
Curtis explained what was special about Lewis’ audition. “He blew everyone else away,” she said. Despite the fact that the original pilot was not picked up, Curtis and Lewis’ connection was ultimately what made the show successful. “We ended up producing the show for two years,” the speaker stated.
She commented about how much she enjoyed their time together on the set and complimented Lewis on his quirky ways, like hiding his lines under props. He was also a stand-up comedian, albeit he hated performing in front of live crowds. But I thought it was great,” the woman remarked.
Curtis also considered how heartbroken they both were by the deaths of their colleagues and friends, John Ritter and Richard Frank. She revealed that Lewis had expressed in a recent text message that he wanted to see more episodes of Anything But Love collected into a boxed set.
Curtis described Lewis as an important figure in her life, saying, “He’s also the reason I’m sober.” I found him to be useful. He was kind to me, and I will always be appreciative.
Regarding Lewis’ wife Joyce Lapinsky, Curtis remarked, “He found love with Joyce, and that, of course, along with being sober, was what mattered most to him.” She said, “Writing this makes me cry.”
In a second Instagram post, Curtis shared a few more memories, a photo of himself with Lewis, and a lyric from the Anything But Love theme song. She appreciated Lewis’s genius and the joy of working with him on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
“Over time, I learned more about Richard and his abilities,” she continued. “I fell in love with him because he was funny and one of the nicest people I know.”
Co-star of Curb Your Enthusiasm Cheryl Hines also honored Lewis, emphasizing his tradition of expressing affection to those who were important to him. “To be loved by Richard Lewis. A real gem, she said.
Curtis concluded her article with a sad farewell. Richard, you’ve got my love. We shall miss you. I love you, Joyce, and the whole family of Richard. Lawrence, Richard, I loved you. However, you already know that.
In these moving homages, Curtis and Hines captured the spirit of Lewis’ impact on their lives and their intimate bond with the beloved humorist.
