Death separated Graham Greene and Hilary Blackmore just a few months before their 35th wedding anniversary in December 2025.
On Monday, the star of Dances With Wolves died at the age of 73, with his wife by his side.

Hollywood, fans, and most of all his family and friends are sorry over the passing of actor Graham Greene. The Canadian actor, who featured in movies including Dances With Wolves and The Green Mile, died on September 1, 2025, after a long battle with health concerns.
When he died, Hilary Blackmore was with him in a Toronto hospital. Greene’s agent told the New York Post that he was “finally free.”
Graham Greene was a well-known Canadian actor, but people also liked the life he shared with his wife. On December 20, 1990, they tied the knot. People say they met while doing Dances With Wolves.
After the movie was completed, they got married in the Black Hills of South Dakota, which is where Dances With Wolves was filmed. Their marriage was legally recorded at Toronto City Hall on December 20, 1990.
But a story in the Toronto Star dated 1991 indicates that Greene and Hilary really met in 1989 while working on the show Fire at the Passe Muraille Theatre in Toronto.
Greene stated, “I threw a wrench at her out of the grid to get her attention so we could finally meet.”
He eventually noticed the tall, strawberry-blonde woman with lengthy hair. “I don’t get why she saw me.” I was dressed like a biker, with a Harley Davidson shirt and a bandana around my head.

Hilary has also acted, designed costumes and outfits for plays, and even sold shoes. But as Graham’s career took off, she stepped back, which she said she had planned to do for a long.
Greene called Hilary first to tell her that he had been nominated for an Oscar for playing Kicking Bird, Kevin Costner’s Native American instructor.
I called my wife, Hilary, and said, “You won’t believe this.” Greene recalls adding, “I just got nominated for an Oscar.”
Greene told The Gazette that the phone rang two minutes later, and the rest was “like Christmas morning.”
Graham Greene was a famous and renowned actor, but he was honest when he said he didn’t want to move to California for work.
Instead, he and his wife, Hilary Blackmore, live with a “small army of cats” outside of Toronto. Greene liked to write, build boats, and play golf there. He said, “I don’t care who’s watching; I just want to go play.” In this game, you play against yourself.
The reason Greene left Toronto
Greene lived in Toronto at first, but the city’s instability finally got to him. He told The Toronto Star that he couldn’t take it anymore:
He went on to say, “One day, I was sitting outside in my bathing suit, spraying myself with a garden hose, and listening to the noise of the DVP.”
Greene said, “To hell with this,” and called a realtor acquaintance to tell him he wanted to go to the country.
The couple soon bought a gorgeous log cabin in Udora, which is roughly an hour north of Toronto. There was a pond and a stream on the land, which was more than 8.5 hectares. There were 3,000 square feet of living space and a studio above the garage.

Graham said, “Tom Krebs, the man who designed the house, bought all the cobblestones he needed for a dollar.” “The stone stays warm when the wood stove heats it up.” But in the heat, it keeps everything cool.
Hilary says, “It’s so friendly.” ” It is warm and consumes less power. The wood stove and fireplace work as they should.
But Graham’s escape, the studio adjacent to their house, wasn’t open to everyone, especially ladies.
He said in 2008, “I bought a big-screen TV with surround sound.”
“Hilary didn’t want it in the house,” she said. Girls aren’t allowed in my clubhouse, which I name Tubby’s Clubhouse. It’s just me and Tully, the boy cat. “I have a gym and I read scripts,” Greene remarked. There are windows on all four sides, so the light is great.
What Hilary didn’t know
Before they got married, Hilary didn’t know how much Graham cared about decorating. He admired copies of 18th-century furniture in the style of George Hepplewhite and Richard Brinsley Sheridan. This gave their home a Georgian feel. She, on the other hand, would have wanted a look like that of a Mission.
There were two bedrooms and a bathroom in the loft, where Graham’s wife lived. It was filled with her books, TV shows, and movies, which gave her and the six rescue cats a lot of space to relax and spend time together.
A lot of people might think that Hilary and Graham’s life together was wonderful, yet there were some small troubles in their marriage.
“We argue about…”
Hilary stated, “At Christmas, we have a tree that is 16 feet tall.”
Graham also said, “And a Featherlight ladder to go with it.”
“Every year we argue about how to decorate the tree,” Hilary said. “One year I do it, and the next year he does it.” We don’t get along very well at work.
It may not have been the largest problem, but the fact that they couldn’t agree on this shows a lot about their relationship.
