Fans Guess Why Serena Williams Joined Kendrick Lamar at Super Bowl Halftime

Following the unexpected appearance, viewers at home flocked to social media to express their opinions.

Many things happened in Sunday’s (9 February) Super Bowl final, which saw the Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 40–22.

The Grammy-winning song “Not Like Us,” which is a diss track about fellow rapper Drake, was performed by none other than Kendrick Lamar during the much-anticipated halftime show, despite the fact that it was recently the focus of a widely reported lawsuit.

Serena Williams also joined Lamar on stage during the performance, and fans have since flocked to social media to speculate about why she made such an unexpected visit.

For background on the beef, let’s look at Universal Music Group. Drake sued the label for defamation and harassment after it released the diss track. His attorneys accused the label of starting a “campaign to create a viral hit” because Lamar, 37, calls the 38-year-old a “certified p**dophile,” a charge Drake has consistently refuted.

Lamar sung, “Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young / You better not ever go to cell block one,” while people all over the world gaped. He did, however, omit the most contentious term from the diss track: “p**dophile.”

“HE SAID THE F**KING VERSE???” a fan tweeted. There is a draught on the floor.

“Kendrick really out here calling out Drake at the Super Bowl,” someone else said.

A third person wrote, “Kendrick Lamar is cooking Drake in front of the world at the Super Bowl right now.”

Another commented: “Lmaoooooo the way he looked at the camera before that ‘hey Drake’.”

At home, viewers were also compelled to comment on Williams’ brief appearance. Williams, a fellow Compton native, is said to have dated Drake briefly in 2011, according to People.

The 43-year-old tennis icon was spotted dancing as Lamar sang “Not Like Us.”

“Drake watching Serena his ex crip walking to a viral diss song about him that’s legendary,” said a user on X.

Another said, “OK I lied SERENA WILLIAMS doing a CRIP WALK on Drake’s tomb (this performance) was THE BEST thing I’ve ever seen.”

“SERENA CRIP WALKING ON DRAKE LMAOOOOOOOO,” a third person asked.

Another person added, “SERENA????” If Kendrick didn’t like us, did he have the serena Williams crip walking? WERE YOU THE SERENA WHO DATED DRAKE? “This man is insane!”

Williams tweeted, “I love you @taylorswift13 don’t listen to those booo!!” in additional Super Bowl antics to defend Taylor Swift from the jeering crowd.
