Elon Musk’s DOGE Moves Prompt Government to Rehire Hundreds of Former Employees

Elon Musk’s DOGE sacked hundreds of government workers two weeks ago and has now urged them to return to work.

Two weeks ago, the Trump administration authorized layoffs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Days later, however, 180 former workers were startled to receive an email telling them to go back to work.

The email’s subject line said, “Read this email immediately.”

The note’s body stated: “You should resume your duties in accordance with your prior work schedule. We are sorry if this has caused any inconvenience.

A report from the Associated Press states as much.

New hires who were still on probation were among those who had been relieved of their duties.

The number of workers returning to their positions after their redundancies were reversed is unknown at this time.

Government employees’ concerns about their job security have increased in recent weeks since Musk declared he was implementing widespread cuts to reduce governmental spending.

Musk requested that all federal employees provide a list of five accomplishments from the previous week in a contentious email.

Musk issued a warning at the end of the email, saying that “not responding will be interpreted as a resignation.”

Cabinet secretaries told staff not to respond to the email, which made the millionaire retract his threats.

Musk said on X (then known as Twitter): “The passing grade is literally just ‘Can you send an email with words that make any sense at all?'” The standard is low.

Musk stated that the purpose of the email was just to determine “who had a pulse and two working neurons” in a different article.

DOGE, which supposedly serves as the president’s outside counselor but has no real decision-making power, has cut other federal agencies.

According to a Trump administration official, Veterans Affairs has already laid off 1,000 personnel and plans to lay off 80,000 more.

Internal Revenue Service employees are also risking layoffs as a result of attempts to reduce their workforce.

This might result in the loss of 90,000 positions at the agency, per DOGE’s recommendation.

Musk has also been determined to reduce the expenses of other government entities.

Three thousand employees of the Forest Service are leaving, while another five thousand have lost their employment in national parks, forests, and other federal public lands.
