Elon Musk’s outraged response to Tom Hanks’ contentious Saturday Night Live comedy has left many stunned.
The 68-year-old actor was among the numerous well-known people that attended the SNL50: The Anniversary Special, which was held on Sunday night, February 16, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live.
In a 2016 Black Jeopardy episode, Hanks portrayed Doug, a supporter of Donald Trump, in the original comedy.
In the moment, Doug, sporting a MAGA baseball cap, declines to shake hands with Kenan Thompson’s character, Darnell Hayes.
Republican viewers were not pleased with the comedy, and many of them took to X to attack Hanks for his portrayal.
In a desperate attempt to deal with the Democrats’ stunning setback in November, one member on X wrote: “SNL and Tom Hanks thought it would be hilarious for him to put on a MAGA hat and act out a stereotype of half the country.” It’s not shocking that no one watches NBC or SNL these days.
Another wrote: “After watching Tom Hanks do a sad mockery of me & every other Trump supporter on SNL’s 50th anniversary show I know I’ll never watch another of his performances or movies.”
A third, meanwhile, wrote: “Tom Hanks made fun of millions of Trump fans on Saturday Night Live while dressing like a slob. Keep going, libs. You will never again win an election.
Musk, the head of Trump’s recently established Department for Government Efficiency, retweeted an inflammatory remark posted by a Republican on X, demonstrating his own strong response to the sketch.
The tweet said: “Hey @tomhanks, pedo.
“Not every patriot sporting a #MAGA hat is white.
“In fact, most racism comes from the elite Democrats, you a** hole.”
Musk included two fire emojis with the post, retweeting the statement.
One user wrote: “Why would someone post that about Tom Hanks and then why would anyone waste their time to repost something like that without any validity to the claim?” Others were appalled when Musk retweeted the comments.
Another person said, “Prove it, Elon.”
One person described it as “school yard level” in the interim.
Not only did Hanks’ sketch go viral over the weekend, but another scene showed him and his wife Rita Wilson, who is also 68, abruptly leaving the stage.
In the minutes before, host Jimmy Fallon spoke to the audience before joking that no awards will be given out throughout the three-hour broadcast.
Fallon said, “Apparently, there’s been some confusion,”
“This is merely a performance. Tonight, there won’t be any awards presented. I simply want to ensure that everyone is aware of that.
At that moment, Hanks, a father of four, was spotted in the audience grasping his partner’s hand before they climbed out of the seats and made their way to the back door of the studio.
Then, as the two left the venue, actress and singer Wilson waved her finger at the camera, and 50-year-old Fallon asked, “Tom? Rita?
“We lost Rita and Tom Hanks,” he continued. “I apologize. They weren’t at blame.
