Donald Trump Threatens to ‘Shut Down’ Major Canadian Business Over Tariff Disputes

Trump has revealed his next course of action, and the trade conflict between the US and Canada shows no signs of abating.

In reaction to price increases the Ontario provincial government imposed on power sold to the United States, Donald Trump has imposed new tariffs.

Trump had already threatened to retaliate on behalf of the United States.

Trump addressed his own social media platform, Truth Social, outlining his plans to retaliate against Canada.

“In light of Ontario, Canada imposing a 25% tariff on “Electricity” entering the United States, I have directed my Secretary of Commerce to impose an additional 25% tariff, up to 50%, on all steel and aluminum entering the United States from Canada, one of the highest tariffing nations in the world,” he wrote.

In order to avoid further pressure on Canada, Trump also urged that the country make some reforms.

Additionally, he stated: “This will take effect tomorrow morning, March 12th. Additionally, the long-standing and absurd Anti-American Farmer Tariff that Canada imposes on a variety of dairy goods from the United States must be immediately lifted.

“A National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area will be declared shortly. This will enable the United States to promptly take the necessary actions to mitigate this abusive threat posed by Canada.

Trump also cautioned that further tariff hikes may be forthcoming in April and made it apparent that these current actions are only the start.

“Permanently shutting down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada” was another statement he made.

His statement continued, saying: “I will significantly raise the tariffs on cars entering the U.S. on April 2nd if other egregious, long-standing tariffs are not also removed by Canada. This will effectively permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing industry in Canada.”

“Those vehicles could be produced in the USA with ease! The United States provides military protection, and Canada spends very little for national security.

In order to prevent more trade war problems, Obama once more urged Canada to join the US as its 51st state, a move that has not gone over well with the public.

“Canada becoming our beloved Fifty First State is the only thing that makes sense,” Trump said as he concluded his tirade. This would completely eliminate all tariffs and other restrictions.

“The biggest and most powerful country in the world will be bigger, better, and stronger than ever before, Canadians’ taxes will be drastically lowered, and they will be more secure militarily and otherwise than ever before,” the statement reads.
