A high-ranking police official has said that terrorism and gang activities are not to blame for a shooting in Sydney’s inner west that harmed at least 16 people and involved up to 100 rounds being fired.
Police promptly went to Croydon Park on Sunday around 7:45 p.m. after hearing gunfire. Cars could only use the roads.
A man in his early 60s was arrested around 9:30 p.m. in a building on Georges River Road, and guns were taken. At the scene, paramedics helped 16 people, and some were sent to the hospital, including one man who is in critical condition.
Mal Lanyon, the Commissioner of Police in New South Wales, told 2GB on Monday that there was “no known link” between the shooting and terrorist ideology or gang activities.
“I’ve seen a lot of body-worn footage from cops.” “He continued, “They had to hide as they sought to help people.”
“Cars were being shot at, and there were several rounds of gunfire while the cops were there.
“On the body cam video, you can see the police hiding and hear a lot of gunfire and impacts not far from the camera.”
People who were there reported they heard gunfire close to a McDonald’s. Police cars were among the cars that were shot at.

Police said that shots were fired from the window of a building where officers were hurrying to the apartment complex.

At the site, there are photographs of paramedics helping someone on a stretcher.

Tactical police are in the inner west of Sydney right now.
Around 9:15 p.m., when tactical police were already on the scene, several powerful explosions could be heard.
Stephen Parry, the acting superintendent of the NSW Police, said that officers who went to the apartment complex were shot at from a window of a building on Georges River Road.
He said the bullets just missed the cops and hit their police car instead.
Nick, the taxi driver, said that he was nearby when the gunshots hit his car.
“I heard a ‘bang, bang, bang’ on the passenger side of the taxi as I drove by.” I observed a few holes in the glass next to me. He continued, “I didn’t even know there was a hole in the roof.”
“I smelled the gunpowder, but I thought it was fireworks because it was the night of the big game.”
“I got close to the corner, but then I got scared because I kept hearing gunfire. I parked close to McDonald’s and realized that the shootings were real.
There were 16 persons who had minor injuries who needed care from paramedics, and two males were sent to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.

“Stay where you are” is what many have been instructed.

The individual is claimed to have shot at cars that were driving by “indiscriminately” up to 100 times.

On Monday morning, the incident happened at Croydon Park.

The police take a car away from the scene of the incident on Monday morning.
A representative for NSW Ambulance told the Daily Mail that a man in his 50s walked to Canterbury Hospital by himself with a gunshot wound.
Later, the man was sent to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he was in horrible state and had surgery that night.
As of Monday, he is still in bad shape.
After treating them, NSW Ambulance paramedics took three more patients with minor injuries to Canterbury Hospital.
Two other persons went to a local police station on their own with minor injuries. One person was brought to a hospital nearby with injuries that have not yet been confirmed.
Pictures from the scene of the incident showed paramedics taking care of a patient on a stretcher.
Reports say that other automobiles, including a police car, were also damaged when they were shot at.
“The first shot hit the cops when they were outside their car.” A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said, “They’ve retreated safely and tactically.”

Police tape closed off a building in Sydney’s inner west after a gunshot on Sunday night.

After the shooting, a bus station in Croydon Park had broken glass.
According to Superintendent Parry, the man was firing at cars that were driving by, including police cars.
Superintendent Parry recalled, “There could have been between 50 and 100 shots fired at the time.”
He was firing from a window in the building. “That’s what we think,” he said.
“The shooting was almost unheard of in Sydney,” stated Trent King, Acting Assistant Commissioner.
Mr. King termed the incident “horrific” and added that the cops still don’t know what happened.
Mr. King told Today on Monday, “He used a high-caliber rifle for the incident as well.”
“Very, upsetting.” That is obviously a part of the investigation that starts today.
Mr. King said that the person allegedly shot at the cops when they got there.

Many roads are closed by the police.

NSW Ambulance said that four people had been hurt in different ways.

The area is still closed to traffic.
He claimed that the police hadn’t talked to the person yet, but they will do so at the “right time.” They would ask him things like where he acquired the gun and the bullets.
During the police operation, people were ordered to “shelter in place.” There were police helicopters and an armored Bearcat vehicle involved.
Officials issued a text message to people in the area warning them to stay inside or find shelter.
Parts of Georges River Road and Brighton Avenue, among other roads, stayed closed until well after 11 p.m.
A police helicopter passed over and warned residents on the ground to stay inside.
A taxi driver who was passing through the area at 7:30 p.m. said he heard about four loud explosions and smelt gunpowder, as if someone had fired off fireworks.
He then looked over and saw that the door, window, and roof of his car all had a lot of holes in them.
The police officers who deal with public order and riots got there quickly.
People who lived there were frightened and used social media to check on their friends and relatives. People stated that Sydney isn’t safe because there had been so many gun deaths.
Authorities have set up a crime scene and told cars to stay away from the area and take different routes.
There is still an investigation going on about what transpired.
