What is genuinely startling is the degree of cruelty that certain individuals can show toward dogs. All too frequently, these precious animals are subjected to pain and suffering that is completely unnecessary.
One dog, who was the subject of a terrible attack in which his face was horribly burned, was the victim of this sort of thing. On the other hand, thankfully, he has been making since then. thanks to some compassionate veterinarians, a miracle recovery was made.
Buddy, a dog that was characterized as a “happy and carefree dog” who was “never a threat to anyone,” was reportedly set on fire in April of 2021, according to a report that was made by the Tunica Humane Society. A black extension cord was tied around his neck when he was discovered, and his face was fully burnt and seared over.
According to WTVA, a child eventually admitted to setting Buddy on fire; but, due to the fact that he is younger than 12 years old, he cannot be charged with the incident.
The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine provided Buddy with medical attention after he was placed in the care of the Tunica Humane Society, which is located in Mississippi. Buddy’s road to recovery began with a gradual but hopeful progression while he was in their care.
According to Dr. Elizabeth Swanson, an associate professor and veterinary surgeon, who spoke with WTVA, “Buddy’s vital signs are good but, as well as with any burn patient, this is very much the bottom of a tall mountain to be climbed.”
The bandages on his wounds are being changed, and we are taking care of any issues that may arise as they occur.
Good news: Buddy does not appear to have lost his eyesight, despite the horrible injuries he sustained. The Tunica Humane Society reports that the medical professionals believed that his eyes were still in good condition. A medical procedure will be performed to repair the damage to his eyelids, and it is anticipated that he will have some eyesight once he has recovered.
Despite this, Buddy was required to continue wearing bandages that covered his entire upper body. That being said, he has maintained a positive attitude throughout it all.
In a post on Facebook, the Humane Society stated that “He continues to move forward daily.” Without ever letting down his medical professionals. All of those who were affected by his skin transplants have expressed their deep satisfaction with the outcomes. In spite of the fact that recovery from burn wounds is a fairly slow process, Buddy is doing exceptionally well.
He displayed a dramatic improvement in the appearance of his face while he was changing his bandage today. The healing process for Buddy is ongoing, and he is currently learning some fundamental commands.
On their Facebook page, they wrote, “This delightful and sociable dog did not deserve what happened to him.” His presence did not pose a danger to anyone. Such a brutal and deliberate act was committed.
“I pray that Buddy’s painful injuries were not in vain,” the speaker said. That despite the tragedy, there will be some positive outcome to this situation. Justice will be done in circumstances such as Buddy’s, and that change will eventually take place.
In the years that have passed since Buddy’s tale went viral, he has continued to make progress, and the veterinarians at Mississippi State University have provided him with the highest quality of care.
After undergoing skin grafts, he was able to heal his burns, and as a result, he required fewer and fewer bandages. Slowly, he emerged as the person he had been before.
Due to the fact that the bandages that were covering his ears have been removed, he is now much happier and more playful. A report from the Tunica Humane Society from the previous month stated, “I am certain that he is experiencing a great deal of happiness as he gradually returns his life to its normal state.”
And on August 7, the rescue organization made the announcement that Buddy had reached a “huge turning point” in his recuperation.
Buddy’s bandages, which had totally covered his eyes ever since the attack, were removed without him being deeply sedated for the very first time. This meant that Buddy was allowed to see for the very first time in more than three months of suffering from the condition.
According to the Humane Society’s report, “His eyes were actually open and he was very aware.” In response to the countless thousands of prayers that have been offered, the answer is yes, Buddy is still able to see.
During the final horrifying moments, shortly before a child set fire to his face, Buddy’s last genuine memory of vision was that of the moment. Within the span of a single second, this dog’s entire existence was transformed.
His caregivers have reported that his personality has began to shine once more, and the fact that he is finally able to see was a significant step toward returning to normalcy for this sad puppy.
According to Sandy Williams, director of the Tunica Humane Society, who spoke with WREG, “Buddy’s entire personality has changed since seeing the light of day.”
In addition to being joyful and cheerful, he is shown strolling through the corridors of the medical facility while holding a large ball in his mouth. He is crazy about balls. It is because he wears them around so everyone can see them.

In spite of the fact that it is a significant step forward, Buddy is not completely out of the way. According to a post on Facebook by the Humane Society, he has not yet recuperated completely, and his eyelids will require some attention in order to safeguard his eyes.

WREG was informed by Williams that “his skin is going to be sensitive,” that his eyes will most likely require eye drops, and that he will be required to wear sunscreen whenever he is outside.
