In Manitoba, Canada, a bus carrying elderly passengers collided with a truck, killing at least 15 people. The incident took place on the Trans-Canada Highway near Carberry, west of Winnipeg. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), ten persons, including both drivers, were sent to the hospital with serious injuries.
Eyewitness John Proven described the sight as a “huge accident” with a burning automobile and a semi-truck nearby with its front end seriously damaged. The tragic accident occurred while the bus was taking elders from Dauphin to the Sand Hills Casino in Carberry. Emergency services, including an air ambulance and 12 additional ambulances, were despatched swiftly.
Authorities are still investigating why the bus entered the truck’s lane, despite CCTV indicating that the truck had the right of way. RCMP Superintendent Rob Lasson highlighted that no responsibility has been attributed at this time because the inquiry is ongoing.
This disaster has been compared to the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash in Saskatchewan, which killed 16 people. Given the similarities between the two occurrences, Manitoba officials have asked for assistance from individuals involved in the Humboldt inquiry.
