Some people regularly recall their dreams, while others swear they never dream or can’t remember them.
But is there any meaning in dreams? when many people believe that dreams contain messages from invisible entities that we cannot comprehend when awake, some scientists argue that dreams are just the consequence of neurological processes in our brains.
Even while we sleep, our brains are quite active. Dreams might reflect our everyday lives or disclose our concerns. But what does it mean to dream about someone who has died?
These dreams may be part of the grieving process or a reflection of a life transition. According to Healthline, the latter occurs more frequently.
Such dreams are typical at times of transition, such as starting a new job, relocating to a new location, or meeting new people.
The way we feel after a dream is more essential than the dream itself.
Rubin Naiman, a Ph.D.-holding psychologist who has extensively researched sleep, adds that “dream interpretation entails deciphering the dream. It provides psychological insights and broadens our understanding.”
So, dreaming about someone who has died could be a reflection of the changes in our lives and how they affect us.
“Many contemporary neuroscientists believe that during REM sleep, the brain is performing maintenance tasks and may unintentionally generate visual images, making dreams appear meaningless,” Naiman explains. “On the other hand, others argue that dreaming is more profound than waking life. This viewpoint is widespread in ‘dream cultures,’ such as among Australia’s indigenous people, who regard dreaming as essential to our spiritual existence.”
Experts divide these dreams into four types.
First, dreaming about a departed person could be the brain’s way of processing grief and pain. If we have unresolved issues with the departed, such as guilt, this could explain why we see them in our dreams. According to dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg, we may dream about a deceased person if we identify some of their characteristics, such as substance misuse, in ourselves. Some specialists feel that these dreams are a visitation from the deceased, especially if they appear well-dressed or joyful. A good emotion in the dream may indicate that the deceased person is saying, “Hello.”
Regardless of our thoughts about dreams, they unquestionably provide significant and valuable insights. Dreams can reveal insights into our spirit and our relationship to individuals who have passed away.
