Ohio’s attorney general, Dave Yost, wrote a heartfelt letter saying he is grieved by the tragic loss of a law enforcement officer. It saddens me to see that another Ohio police officer gave his life trying to uphold safety in his town. Honestly, I will always be grateful to anyone who offers help and risks their own lives,” Yost continued.
The incident has drawn attention from around the state and many people and politicians are sharing support and kindness. In a social media post, Bernie Moreno called Deputy Sherrer’s passing “devastating.” I wish to thank all the law enforcement officers in Ohio. I am thinking about the family of Deputy Daniel Sherrer and the whole community during this hard time.
Many people living in Marengo and the neighboring communities have hired candles and left flowers to pay tribute to Sherrer at the sheriff’s office.
