Staying Safe in Hotels: Look Out for These 3 Warning Signs

If you’re on a business trip or have to travel, most likely, renting a room in a motel or hotel is necessary to relax. Many people often check in and go straight to resting, while they ignore everything else. Still, this idea is not correct. After checking in, it is important to look for anything odd in your room.

Two-way mirror
Most mirrors in hotel rooms are designed to favor privacy through being one-way mirrors. However, make sure to check all mirrors since there could be problems with two-way mirrors. Being a two-way mirror, both people inside and outside can see into the room and install cameras behind the mirror without us knowing.

Two-way mirrors provide different image reflections when compared to one-way mirrors. A two-way mirror lets us see ourselves just like in a normal mirror, yet it is simple for someone on the other side to observe us.

Hidden cameras
Guests can enjoy their own personal space in the hotel rooms. The majority of hotel owners will not intentionally place cameras in customers’ rooms. Public areas receive cameras mainly to ensure security. There are cases where people with bad intentions rent a room and sneak in recording devices without the hotel team or guests discovering them.

For this reason, always inspect the room carefully before accepting it to avoid facing bad surprises or being taped in secret.

The faucets and showerheads have become dirty.

After you are checked in, make a habit of checking the hygiene in the room, often the faucets and showers. If your faucets look dirty for a long while and you don’t clean them, that should be noticed. If your existing ideas don’t work, another tactic is to open the shower head and check the pipes underneath.

Having any hair or dirt in the hose means you should not use the shower. In case of concerns about the level of hygiene, you can approach reception to get a new room or shower.
