Remembering a Beloved Public Figure—Tributes Are Pouring In

Searchers have located three bodies after a mudslide near Lillooet and one person is still missing, say the RCMP.

As stated by B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe on Saturday, one person was found dead on Wednesday and two more deceased remained on Thursday.

On Friday, authorities tried to locate the fourth missing person, but did not find anything, she stated.

Additionally, Monday saw the recovery of a woman’s body at the landslide scene which marked the first death directly caused by the unrelenting floods and landslides in the local area that started last weekend due to heavy rainfall.

After checking all possibilities, the investigation team has finished their search, Lapointe explained, even though talks are ongoing to decide the next best step.

Authorities are doing their best to figure out the identities of the three men and contact their families.

At this time, four people have not been located after a mudslide near Lillooet on Highway 99, according to police.

Rescuers have found that one person has lost their life and the search continues in the aftermath of the mudslide in B.C.

In my statement, I expressed my honest sympathy to the families who lost someone suddenly and the family we have yet to find their missing person.

Being through such a hard year in B.C., my thoughts and heart are with the many families and communities who have been affected by tragedy. We remain committed at BC Coroners Service to determine what happened in these tragic events and, where possible, share advice for avoiding more such accidents.

Search crews are currently attempting to find four people missing after a mudslide on November 15 which occurred near a part of Highway 99 known as Duffey Lake Road.

Janelle Shoihet stated that finding the fourth missing person has been difficult due to the bad weather and difficult areas at the scene.

Motorists are still unable to access the area and there is no hint about when the highway will reopen.
