Lady Gaga’s free concert attracted over two million people, and the state of Rio de Janeiro’s Civil Police have claimed that they prevented a ‘bomb attack’ being set off.
Yesterday, May 3, Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, performed at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Copacabana Beach for at least a two hour spectacle.
Thought to have attracted an incredible 2.1 million people, the 39 year old performed the show for free as part of her world tour of her album Mayhem.
The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police had since then issued a statement saying they had stopped a ‘bomb attack’ from taking place during the event.
“We prevented a bomb attack planned to take place during Lady Gaga’s show in Copacabana, South Zone RJ,” Rio de Janeiro Civil Police and Ministry of Justice in a post to Twitter. The detained teenager and person responsible for the plan were arrested.”
The suspects, who worked with the nation’s justice ministry and police, recruited participants, including minors, to carry out coordinated attacks on and with improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails, according to the police.
Rio state police intelligence gave the tip off, which led to the discovery of the bomb plot, reports say.

They said “those involved had been virtually recruiting participants to carry out attacks using improvised explosives, the aim being to create notoriety on social media.”
As a result, 12 search and seizure warrants were issued based on the tip forwarded to the ministry’s cyber operations laboratory by state police intelligence.
They noted that the agents served search and seizure warrants against targets in Rio, Niterói, Duque de Caxias, Macaé, as well as the states of São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso. Local Civil Police forces collaborated.”

The next led to the arrest of a man believed to be the group’s commander. In southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, he was found in possession of a firearm.
