Nicole Kidman Halts Filming on New Movie Due to Unexpected Personal Discomfort

Nicole Kidman admitted on The Jason Gay Show that while making Babygirl, there was one moment where she could not continue filming an intimate scene because she reached her limit.

What led to the creation of the erotic movie
When asked on Graham Norton’s show, the actress explained that the character in her latest thriller was challenging, but she wanted to experience something new.

Kidman appears as a businesswoman in Thriller and her involvement with a younger intern from work threatens both her occupation and her family.

This film originated from a story Halina Reijn had heard about a woman who did not have an orgasm during her 25-year marriage.

According to Reijn, her interest in women’s feelings toward their bodies encouraged her to make the movie the way it is.

She plays her role so well that she transitions from desperate anger, to feeling threatened and ends the scene with intense desire.

“The script is amazing and I’m eager to challenge myself in all my roles,” Kidman explained. Playing this character was unlike anything I’d tackled before and as an actor I am always interested in finding new aspects within me.

Even with all the hardships, Kidman insists on keeping her personal and acting careers separate. Even when the movie was completed, the personal part affected Nicole Kidman personally.

Things took a sad turn for her after she received the Volpi Cup award which made her personal life more heartbreaking. Shortly after arriving in Venice and making her way to the closing ceremony, she discovered that her mother was gone. Kidman rushed out of Italy and did not have the chance to accept the award on stage. Rather, Halina Reijn collected the award for her.

I decided to pause during the scene.
The actress explained that taking part in intimate scenes in Babygirl could sometimes be more than she could stand. For Berry, it was more difficult than anticipated to play the scenes where she pretends to reach an orgasm with both Dickinson and Antonio Banderas, her character’s husband.

During the filming of the erotic scenes, Murphy admitted that she had to trust her co-stars and sometimes faced frustrating moments. Her feelings became too strong so she had to end the scene and take some time off.

“Sharing, trust and frustration were all part of it,” she stated.

While shooting, there were moments when Kidman decided she was ready to move on emotionally and didn’t yearn for more orgasms, she told the Sun.

I felt like, ‘Do not touch me.’ I’d occasionally say to myself, ‘I want to be free of ever feeling someone’s touch again!’ I was finished with it already.”

Playing the lead role in Babygirl was demanding for the actress, as she said, “It wore me right out.” Despite the challenges, people have already praised her acting and she received seven minutes of standing applause at the Venice Film Festival after winning Best Actress.

Strong earnings at the box office
Many found the film to be a success, both at the cinemas and among critics, as it grossed over $60 million from a $20 million budget. It received the honor of one of the top ten movies of the year from the National Board of Review and Kidman won another award for her performance.

People around me are certainly discussing Babygirl. The film’s unique look at intimacy has generated plenty of debates.

Viewers are unsure whether the movie’s portrayal of Nicole Kidman’s body and women’s issues with their bodies is art or true vulnerability. The film’s intense scenes and interesting themes will ensure that it is discussed for a long time after it ends.
