Is Age Gap in Love a Sin? Here’s What Scripture Says

For us, Jesus took upon Himself the responsibility to carry our sins. In Pope Benedict XVI’s words, this situation involves God actively turning against himself (Deus Caritas Est, 12). God shows His love to those who are not His followers (see Mt 5:43-48).

The communication God desires with each person through His Son’s death and resurrection is very different from the kind of chatter common in ancient Athens. Shallow, aimless talk has long shown what it means to be worldly and in our times it shows up as misusing media and technology.

What we have should be given away, not kept just for ourselves
Understanding the paschal mystery as central in our lives leads us to understand the pain experienced by Christ during the crucifixion and remind us of the countless suffering people, from the unborn to the elderly, who are victims of conflict, attacks or violence. Additionally, suffering can be noticed in natural disasters, unfair access to resources, various forms of human trafficking and the ceaseless search for more profit which is like worshiping money.

We must push individuals with good intentions to help those in great need by offering their resources, as this greatly aids in building a better world. Being generous shows compassion, whereas saving every bit for ourselves makes us selfish. We have to pay attention to the framework and design of our economic structures.

Hence, I have gathered young economists, entrepreneurs and innovators in Assisi from March 26 to 28 this Lent season to promote an economy that is fairer for all. The teaching of the Church has repeatedly pointed out that being engaged in politics is a major form of charity (as mentioned by Pius XI in his address to the Italian Federation).

I implore Mary Most Holy to help us respond positively to God when we celebrate Lent. May our attention turn to the paschal mystery and encourage us to have open and honest talks with Him. This change will show us fulfilling what Christ requires of those who follow Him: being the salt of the earth and the light of the world (see Mt 5:13-14).
