Friday, May 17, 2025, legendary country singer Alan Jackson came to Milwaukee and gave one of the most emotional performances in his hundreds of performances in many decades of his career. In front of a sell-out audience, the country music legend, who is 66 years old, announced what fans had been dreading since long but did not dare to believe.
Tearfully and visibly stressed, Jackson replied, telling the audience, that it was the final road show of his career and officially putting an end to his touring career, thus closing his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour in a moving fashion. The people, sensing that it is a matter of importance, rewarded the performance with a prolonged applause that lasted many minutes as many people wiped their tears, having realised this to be a moment in history.

One of the factors that have contributed to Jackson deciding to stop touring is his fight in health. In 2021, he announced publicly that he has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a rare, inherited nerve disorder that progressively causes muscles (especially in the arms and legs) to weaken and suffer loss of coordination. His performance has been affected more by the progressive nature of the disease. During a previous interview, he said, “It has been bothering me since years back and it is increasingly becoming apparent.” I am getting a little shaky now even at the mike. Throughout his career Alan Jackson has been one of the most genuine voices in country music, with a style characterized by storytelling, humility and close communication with the audience.
