The Disappointing Response to Mike Myers’ Elon Musk Skit on SNL Explained

Some viewers had their own gloomy reasons for not finding the sketch particularly humorous, but Mike Myers’ portrayal of Elon Musk’s chainsaw-wielding antics was the focus of another SNL spoof.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk and comedy live show Saturday Night Live have a long history of back and forth, but since Musk joined the campaign trail of now-US President Donald Trump last year, the back and forth has intensified dramatically.

Although Musk’s presence in May 2021 caused controversy because it caused cast member Chloe Fineman to cry, he has only used humorous impersonations and disparaging comments in his recent performances.

In his opening monologue, Chris Rock fired many punches at the world’s richest man, and Musk has previously attacked the show after impersonating similar figures.

But it seems that Mike Myers’ recent derision of Musk has upset both sides of the debate because neither supporters nor critics of the DOGE chief have come out smiling.(Saul Loeb/AFP via Getty Images) Myers’ mimicry was inspired by Musk’s chainsaw-wielding antics at the CPAC. ()

In reference to the farce in which Myers was seen thrashing about a chainsaw behind Trump and Zelenskyy, Musk himself said that “humor fails when it lies.” However, others may have found this specific scene too “scary” to find the humor.

One user comments in a Reddit thread about the skit, “It was pleasant to watch, but I didn’t find it funny because it was too spot on, which is frightening to me.”

Additionally, they “can’t even enjoy people making fun of this s***,” said another. It’s just too gloomy.

Although SNL has always relied on its political commentary, making fun of numerous US presidents over the course of its 50-year history, many viewers may find the antics of Trump and Musk too “real” to find the humor in them.

Regarding Myers’ portrayal of Musk, another comment said, “I felt he was far too charismatic.” “Sorry, Myers. To get this one right, we’re going to have to increase the creep factor a little bit more than Austin Powers.”

One thing is certain, though: Musk isn’t particularly grateful for the copycat, and this isn’t the first time he’s used social media to respond to criticism of him in the entertainment industry.

Musk had previously called Jimmy Kimmel, the host of a late-night talk show, a “insufferable nonsense propaganda puppet” after the tech magnate and President Trump were the targets of a monologue. Kimmel responded scathingly, saying, “At least my children like me.”

He has also gotten into arguments with Cardi B, a rapper, and Anonymous, a notorious hacker collective, over remarks they made. It’s obvious that this will not be the final social media eruption, but the humor is beginning to fade as many people face reality.
