In the middle of our life story, there are complicated family ties that can turn into falsehoods and betrayals very rapidly. Victor, the main character, is getting set to go on a long-awaited trip abroad with his lover. He is very certain that his wife doesn’t know anything about his secrets. But underneath her placid façade, she has concerns and a well-planned scheme for revenge.
She is tired of her partner lying to her and tricking her, so she decides to do something about it. Clara’s long-running spy game is coming to an end, and it will ruin the illusion that her family is happy. In this spy game, who will win: the woman who doesn’t know what’s going on or the husband who is sure of himself and can take care of himself? Victor was happy today.
At last, he would get to spend an entire week with Lucy, the woman he loved. They wouldn’t have to hide in rented homes, text each other like kids, or act like their relationship was only about work anymore. There was already a certificate for two people to go to Hawaii in his car. It was the key to the long-awaited vacation with the woman he loved. His wife’s briefcase had a fake document in it that said “Business Trip Authorization to Miami.” He was supposed to be going to Miami to buy new equipment for the business.
Victor came home in the evening, just like he always did. He kissed Clara, his wife, looked at his daughter’s diary, and then had dinner with the family. He didn’t show how delighted he was, though. Everything was going according to plan, and every little detail had been thought out. Before bed, he told his wife, “I’m leaving for a week tomorrow.”
Are you going to miss me? “Of course I will,” Clara answered, pushing down a faint doubt that sometimes crossed her thoughts. “And where are you going this time?” she said quietly, even though she knew the response would be the same as it always was. “Oh, not far, to Miami,” Victor answered, not caring at all.
I have to go because the business decided to get new tools. Clara had long suspected that her husband was cheating on her, but she had no proof. She wasn’t sure about any of her guesses. She always kept an eye on how he acted, seeking for even the smallest signs that he was cheating, but he was always able to cover them well.

Victor was careful, so she knew it would be hard to persuade him to talk. But her instinct told her that there was something amiss with the lie about the business trip to Miami. Clara had been playing a spy game for a long time, gathering bits of information and piecing them together to make sense of them. At first, these were indirect signals, such sudden business trips, strange phone calls, or her husband’s behavior altering abruptly.
But today she finally found something that made it evident he had cheated on her. Clara went down to the garage late at night, like she did every night, to check on her husband’s car and things. Victor was already in bed. At last, there it was: luck! She spotted the coupon, which had the names Victor Thompson and Lucy Vargas written on it in black and white.
She had proof that he had cheated, and everything made sense now. Her Victor had made a terrible mistake by leaving such an important material out in the open. When her husband was getting ready for work in the morning, Clara smiled to herself. She could barely stop herself from being sarcastic. His most recent lie now seemed ridiculous and funny.
“And what are you going to change about the production?” she questioned, looking at her husband with a tinge of anger. Victor said, “We’re opening a new workshop,” but he didn’t express any emotion. Now we’ll be putting different images on T-shirts. “Imagine this: I’ll make one with your picture on it and wear it so you’re always with me.”
“Yeah, right,” Clara responded, trying not to laugh. “That lying cheater will wear my picture,” she thought. She had previously prepared a clear plan for retaliation, and now she knew for sure that all of his “business trips” would end shortly. Victor ran a big advertising business and worked all across the country.
Clara was always suspicious because he went on business trips all the time. He had only been home three times a week lately. Clara had understood for a long time that money couldn’t make up for lies and betrayal, even though the company made a lot of money and the family had all they needed. She had only been able to put off divorce because of money, but now she could see that she had run out of patience.
It was time to cease leading two lives. The concept of revenge that had been forming in her head promised to be more than just a response to his adultery; it would be a real disaster for Victor. Clara had wanted to get a lover for a long time, but she never did. Clara thought about getting back at them because they had signed a prenup before the wedding.
Victor’s longstanding friend and lawyer, Ethan, wrote this documentation. It had a small condition that specified that if either spouse cheated, they would lose all of the property they had bought together in the divorce. Ten years ago, Clara was a foolish, ignorant person who signed this contract without thinking about what it would imply. But at that point, Victor was already smart and sneaky. He realized exactly how this plan could aid him later.
Clara’s parents asked him to agree to these terms and gave him money to help his firm develop. This paper was what stopped their marriage from ending for good. Clara would lose everything if they got divorced: their house, their business, their money, and everything else they had worked hard to build together over the years. But did she love Victor? …
Clara had not been able to answer this question for a long time. She might have liked him at the start of their relationship. But at the moment, she was more intrigued in the idea of getting pregnant, leaving her parents, and starting over. The only pleasant thing about this narrative was Sophia, their adorable kid.
In all honesty, Victor loved his daughter so much that he dusted her off. He was a father who cared and paid attention. And Sophia was the nicest thing that ever happened to him. But things with Clara started to go very wrong over time.
That attractive young girl who used to be a real treasure for Victor was now just a boring part of his life. When he was young, he felt she was like a beautiful toy. She had the body of a thin model, delicate features, and blue eyes that could say a lot. He was proud of how pretty she was, so he liked to take her to parties and other social events. But over time, this respect changed into not caring.
Victor took solace in other women because he was tired of the same old things at home. And one of them became Lucy. Clara, on the other hand, tried to keep her cool and keep the peace in the house while their marriage crumbled apart. For the good of their child.
But now that she had the voucher for two, she began to think of a method to get out of this jam without losing everything. Victor always wanted to be the center of attention. He needed people to praise him, which just made his ego stronger. He dressed colorful, stylish attire that constantly attracted people’s attention. He even bought himself a fancy sports car to show how important he was.
Victor wanted to be around people who were successful, rich, and powerful, just like him. But if someone didn’t meet his standards, he didn’t hesitate to make them look bad to prove how much superior he was with money and in social situations. Victor also worked very hard on business development, putting all of his heart and strength into it. His ad agency was doing well, and every year more people hired him.
Lucy, his personal assistant and secretary, was one of the most crucial persons in this play. Victor hired her five years ago, and it was mostly because she looked wonderful, not because she was good at her job. She wasn’t very good at her job, but that didn’t bother her too much. Lucy had no morals at all, which might make up for any professional inadequacies.
She would do a lot for money, and Victor immediately noticed this and used it to his advantage. Because of her, the company got a lot more significant contracts. Victor wasn’t sure how Lucy received these contracts, but he could make a good guess. She was a woman who always got what she wanted.
With her dark hair and light Mediterranean tan, Lucy appeared like a beautiful mulatto from Hollywood. She wasn’t afraid to use her attractiveness to achieve what she wanted, and she knew how to make men crazy. Because of this, Lucy earned the highest money of anyone who worked for Victor. She didn’t care that he had a daughter and a wife.
But Lucy didn’t take Clara’s place; her freedom was more important to her than anything else. She didn’t want to be married or make any promises. But she was still loyal to Victor in her own way. He did save her mother once by paying for an emergency surgery that Lucy couldn’t afford.
The way he acted made her feel very differently about him. She might have even loved him in her own way, not as a man but as a boss she was glad for. Lucy was so happy now that their trip to Hawaii was so close. She had always wanted to go to a foreign country where she could forget about her difficulties and enjoy the good things in life.
Victor was her path into a world where she could have it all at once. Lucy stayed with Victor even though she desired more and liked nice things. She didn’t go to someone who could make more money since she was emotionally attached to him. It was partly because of her that Victor’s wealth grew quite quickly.
Lucy helped him a lot because she knew how to deal with problems and make good deals. Lucy got a taxi in the morning and carried her already-packed bag to the airport, where Victor should have been waiting for her. She was looking forward to their trip together, which would be full of fun and color. For a week, they would be free of all their problems, which they would never forget.
Victor was in a good mood, nevertheless, because he had just said goodbye to his wife with a kiss. He was sure that everything was going well because he was looking forward to a week of fun with Lucy. But this time, there was something about the way Clara acted that made him dubious. Today, instead of saying, “Have a good day, dear,” she seemed cold and distant.
She didn’t say anything and looked at him in a strange, almost scared way as he departed. Victor was upset by this, but he quickly put these thoughts out of his mind. Clara had known for a long time that Victor was cheating on her, but she felt it was all in her head. But now she had proof.
And in her heart, she was ready to make significant moves. She was a journalist, so she always understood how to dig deeper and find the truth. And now her gut warned her that the truth was about to come out. But this employment never paid her.
She did journalism more for fun than to make money for herself and her family because her husband did. She wrote for one of the fashion magazines as a freelancer. And even though she didn’t post a lot, it made her feel free and significant. She felt significant and her life was more interesting because of journalism.
Doing what she really liked. It wasn’t just a job for her; it was a way to show who she was and a challenge for both herself and society. Clara knew she would have to go through something really hard. But she was ready.
Victor had no idea that his great business trip could be the beginning of the end for him. She was already making preparations in her head. When Victor left her alone, Clara was indignant and sad. She hadn’t really cared about him in a long time, and his trip to Hawaii with his mistress was the last straw. But the revenge she carefully planned and thought about wasn’t something she performed on a whim.
This was the exact plan she was planning to follow. Ethan, Victor’s long-time friend who had been angry with him lately, was a key aspect of her plan. Ethan and Victor were friends as kids, and it seemed like their bond would last forever. But things got worse between them when Victor became a rich and successful businessman…
Ethan, a lawyer, was going through a rough patch lately. He was having difficulties with money and had lost a lot of lawsuits in a row. He begged Victor for help when he badly needed money to pay his office rent. Victor, on the other hand, turned him down with clear sarcasm, claiming that all of his money was tied up in the business and he couldn’t afford to waste it on such dumb things. Ethan could barely stop himself from punching his old friend in the face since the things he said were so harsh and arrogant.
He didn’t even shake Victor’s hand or say goodbye before he left. He still had a hatred toward Victor, deep down in his mind. Clara and Ethan had been friends for a long time, but in the last few months, they had grown even closer. She knew that he and Victor didn’t get along, and their fight was a significant part of her plan for revenge.
Ethan was aware of all of Victor’s flaws, both in his personal and professional life. For a long time, Clara had wanted to talk to him about how to make things work for her. She understood that with his help, she could destroy Victor’s artificial happiness and leave the marriage without losing any of the things they had bought together. Her plan for revenge was in motion now that her Victor was far away.
She knew Victor had cheated on her more than once, but the trip with Lucy made her decision come faster. Clara wasn’t going to miss this chance for payback because Victor made it all happen for her. Clara waved goodbye to her husband as he went for work, sent her daughter Sophia to school, and then picked up the phone. Ethan was the first person to call. “Hey, Ethan!” she said without any more formality.
“Do you still want to get back at Victor for what he did to you? “Of course I do! I can still see his arrogant face!” Ethan responded, plainly agitated. “Awesome!” Then talk about our prenup.
Please get the divorce papers ready. And what, is there already a reason? Ethan was curious and asked. “There will be in a few days.”
He and his girlfriend went today for a vacation. Fine, Clara. But you know I can’t move on without direct proof.
There will be proof soon. Don’t worry! “Good,” Clara responded with confidence.
Then I’m really looking forward to it! Ethan said, clearly looking forward to something extremely intriguing happening. After Ethan hung up, Clara made the next move. She called a photographer she knew from the magazine where she worked as a freelancer.
“Hey, Arthur! What do you think about a free three-day trip to the Pacific Ocean?” She inquired with a sly smile. “Hey, Clara! That sounds interesting,” Arthur said.
“But from the way you sound, not just for nothing? “Of course, it wasn’t just a coincidence. “It will require some work. Your profile has everything! “Clara said.
“I’m always ready!” “Yes!” the photographer remarked with pleasure. “Let me tell you the name of the hotel where my husband is staying. “Piece of cake!” He won’t be alone there. If you know what I mean, I need images and as many juicy details as I can get. Arthur said yes right away.
“And you’ll email them to me?” “Well, you know. For that, Clara, it’s at the rate! “—going according to plan.” Clara just smiled.
Clara only had to wait, and the wait was worth it for her. Two days later, she got the images she had been waiting for in her email. Victor, her husband, kisses Lucy with passion in the images. In other images, they were seated in a pub, smiling, and clearly having a wonderful time together.
Clara got a whole pack of these kinds of pictures. “More than enough proof of cheating.” She quickly sent Ethan all the images without wasting any time. “Ethan, what do you think of this dirt? Is it okay?” She said in a cold, sure voice.
“More than enough,” Ethan answered, happy with how things turned out. “Your prenup says that as soon as you file for divorce, you will get Victor’s business and all of his things, including the car.” “I’ll make sure the case goes quickly and smoothly.”
It was clear that Clara was thrilled. Things were going nicely with her plan. Victor didn’t know what was going on, but he was having a great time on vacation with Lucy. The beach, the clubs, the late-night walks, and the nights full with desire…
Because of all this, they felt like they were in heaven. They stopped worrying and completely let go of their stress. But in the end, all wonderful things must come to an end. Victor had already started to mentally come back to reality because their vacation was about to end the next day.
He got a text that made him stop in his tracks as his phone vibrated out of the blue. The notification said, “Because of the divorce, all of your assets are frozen.” Victor stared at the screen in disbelief, not knowing what to say. He couldn’t believe what was happening.
It felt like his whole life went apart in a second. When Lucy saw how tight his face was, she quickly looked over his shoulder. She inquired, “What’s wrong, dear?” and Victor murmured, “My wife’s plans,” knowing exactly what had transpired.
He thought about the prenup he had signed years ago, which he had felt was not important at the time. Oh my God, this stupid lady. She got the better of him. Victor now knew that when he went home, there would be more than just an awkward chat waiting for him.
Things were changing quickly in his life, and the problems were just starting. When Victor got home, the first thing he saw was a nice stack of vacation photos on the coffee table. His wife was sitting on the couch and looking at the pictures very closely. She held a picture of him kissing Lucy passionately in front of a lot of palm trees.
The spouse realized everything was out in the open, and he felt a wave of terror. “Hi, dear,” he began as he went into the room, trying to sound like himself. “Hey.” How is the new equipment? Are you already at work? Clara questioned without showing any emotion and kept looking at the photo.
Victor decided it was pointless to lie more, as if nothing had happened. He groaned deeply and said, “Forgive me, I was wrong.” All he could say was, “I lied to you.”
His voice was weak, and it didn’t sound like he used to be confident of himself. “Oh, come on,” Clara responded calmly, putting the photo down and looking him in the eye. “Don’t worry about me. I’m not unhappy. Do you know why? Because I’m in command now…
“You are back to zero.” Victor felt like his life was falling apart because of what she said. He was used to always being on top, but now he was a loser. “By the way, dear,” Clara continued.
She replied in a colder voice, “After we get divorced, you’ll only be able to see our daughter on weekends.” I already told her that you deceived her, and guess what? She doesn’t want to see you.
Victor’s wife said these last words to him, and they pained him more than anything else. He loved his daughter Sophia so much that he couldn’t handle the notion of her turning away from him. Victor knew that his life would never be the same again.
When all the cards were displayed, Victor admitted that his well-planned spy game had gone wrong.
The illusion of control fell apart like a house of cards. Clara was already putting her plan into action like a master strategist while he was having fun with his amorous experiences. The wife’s retaliation came out of nowhere, but it was bound to happen. It made the husband realize that he was only a piece in someone else’s game.
People are right when they say you shouldn’t rush revenge. After all, revenge is best when it’s cold. Clara, who was cold-blooded and sure of herself, got what she wanted. And even more, she got to make the last point on her own terms.
