He Shut the Door on Grandma—But She Had the Last Word

Some families have a hard time taking care of their elderly relatives when they get older, while others stay committed to helping and supporting them.

Paul and Rachel, who are brother and sister, fought over their old grandmother Eleanor.
Paul said that the old lady was a hardship because she didn’t help out with the family’s money. She spent her days painting. Rachel was astonished to hear Paul say what he did. “Paul, she is our grandma.” “Don’t forget that she raised us,” she continued. But Paul was set on getting his grandma out of his house. “That was back then.” He crossed his arms and remarked, “Things are different now.” “She doesn’t bring anything to the table anymore.” She just sits there and paints, wasting time.

Rachel said, “Those paintings mean something to her.” “And they could mean something to us if we let them.”

“Sentimental nonsense.” Rachel, I need to think about what’s next. We can’t afford to carry dead weight.

Rachel thought about what would happen to their grandma now that he wasn’t going to take care of her anymore. At that point, Paul told Rachel to take grandma Eleanor in. He answered, “She can stay with you.” “You seem to care so much.”

Rachel said yes. She couldn’t leave her granny without a roof over her head, even though her brother’s demand made her feel bad.

Rachel’s extra room went to Grandma Eleanor. It turned into a wonderful place that was warm and welcoming, like home. She could paint there with Rachel’s kids, who loved her and loved hearing her stories.

“Thanks, Rachel.” Your heart has always been compassionate.

“Thanks, Grandma, but you don’t have to.” Rachel hugged her tightly and whispered, “This is your home too.”

Rachel’s kids made her upload Eleanor’s wonderful paintings on social media as time went by.
Eleanor was surprised when her art got a lot of attention. One day, the local gallery asked her to show her paintings.

There was a lot going on in the weeks before Eleanor’s solo show. She worked hard since she not only painted, but also penned the story that went with each painting.

There were a lot of people at the gallery on the big night, and practically all of the paintings sold. Rachel even got a few jobs that paid her well enough to be financially independent.

“Thank you all for believing in me,” the kind grandma said to the gathering, tears of delight running down her face.

Paul showed up at Rachel’s door as soon as he heard about her achievement. When she opened it, the first thing he said was that he was sorry for kicking their grandma out of his house. He continued saying, “I made a mistake,” while looking down. “I see now that I shouldn’t have kicked her out.”

Rachel said, “It’s a little late for that, Paul.” “You showed your true colors when you turned your back on your family.”

Paul told his grandma that he wanted to make things right. “No, Paul. You only want to make things right now that you see I’m doing well. “Where was this worry when I needed a place to live and all I had were my art and memories?” Eleanor said.

Paul responded, “I was wrong,” his voice breaking. “I get it now.” “I’ve lost so much because of what I’ve done.”

Eleanor said, “You lost our respect.” “And that’s something you can’t get back with money or an apology.” Family is about being there for each other and loving each other, not about getting things from them.

Paul turned around and departed when he realized that his apologies weren’t enough to fix the bridges he had broken.
Eleanor then looked at her granddaughter and thanked her for everything she had done for her. Rachel was the one who was appreciative because her grandma taught her to value the people who really matter.

Eleanor’s career as a painter took off. People adored her art and bought a lot of it. Paul could only see his grandma’s success from a distance. He should have learned a lesson that would help him in life.
