Two Sisters Orphaned in 14 Days: Cancer Took Mom, Air Crash Took Dad

Two young girls now have to live without a father as he was crushed during the Air India plane disaster on July 12, two weeks after their mother succumbed to cancer.

According to the heart wrenching news, 37 year old British citizen, Arjun Patoliya was also one of the 270 fatalities who became victims in the aviation disaster that struck last week in India, the worst in a period more than 3 decades. The incident is under investigation and the plane had some problems since the moment it left the runway since the plane crashed seconds after takeoff.

Arjun was in the country in the fulfillment of the final wishes of his deceased wife, Bharti, of having her ashes scattered in Gujarat, town of origin. Bharti is reported to have died two weeks ago after a combative struggle with cancer.

This death of Arjun makes his two young daughters, aged only four and eight, rendered orphans now.

Among the grieving families of the people who died in the crash, there is still a lot of shock with very little substance corroborating the situation to date. One of them is that of Arjun and Bharti who have now experienced two tragedies within less than 20 days.

There is also a GoFundMe page that was established to help with raising money to be used towards the future of their children in the wake of the death of Arjun and Bharti.

Two little sisters, only 4 and 8 years old, lost both of their favorite parents in a span of only 18 days, the bio of the fundraiser reads.

The mother, Bharti Patoliya died after fighting an honorable fight with cancer. Her husband, Arjun Patoliya, fulfils her last wish by travelling to India to spray her ashes back in her home country of Gujarat. Yet still as he returned home to their daughters, fate dealt him another blow, Arjun was one of the people who perished in the Air India Flight Tragedy in June 2025, it happened soon after the plane took off in Ahmedabad.

Arjun ran out to say his goodbye to his wife, and never came back to the children he had brought up together. And these two lovely little girls are without a parent–their whole world upset in less than three weeks.

At present they have raised more than five hundred and seventy six thousand pounds, which will go directly to a legal trust or the guardians appointed to take care of them to be used on the needs of the girls.

Talking to the Indian Express, Arjun mother, Kanchan Patoliya, said she or her younger son, Gopal, will take in the girls.

She added: On Friday evening Gopal came to Ahmedabad. After we have done all the rituals, then we will sit and determine the destiny of both girls. To take care of my grand-daughters, I will go to London to live with my younger son in case I am required to do so.
