Michael Madsen Speaks Out After Tragic Loss of His Son

The final text message that Reservoir Dogs star Michael Madsen heard from his son before he committed suicide was, “I love you, dad.”

Hudson Madsen, 26, was a U.S. Army Sergeant stationed in Hawaii and the son of a Hollywood celebrity. According to his father, he had just completed his first tour when he shot himself in the head. Madsen, the Kill Bill franchise star, told the LA Times, “I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy—my last text from him was #I love you, dad.”

“I saw no indications of depression. It’s so terrible and tragic. He went added, “I’m just trying to understand what happened and make sense of everything.”

Hudson was Madsen’s firstborn son with wife DeAnna Madsen; brothers Kalvin and Luke followed. Hudson’s godfather was Quentin Tarantino. Madsen and his ex-wife, Jeannine Bisignano, have two further boys, Christian and Max.

His wife, Carlie, whom he married in 2019, said on social media that the two were content and were going strong. According to Carlie’s social media, the couple was considering IVF because they were unable to conceive naturally.

On January 22, 2022, just one week before he passed away, Carlie shared a picture of herself in a hospital gown on Instagram, saying that she had recently had a tumour removed. “I just want to give a shout-out to my amazing husband!” she adds in the post. He was and has been incredibly patient with me over the entire procedure to remove a tumour from one of my breasts, which I had yesterday. Carlie said, “We were at the hospital for about 7 hours yesterday and while I was in surgery he went to target and got me flowers, comfy pyjamas, my favourite candy, and a card!” The photo was taken at the Tripler Army Medical Centre, a Department of Defence facility in Hawaii. He has also been quite helpful in my recuperation, and I am incredibly grateful.

Two weeks or so later, she shared a cute picture of herself and Hudson on social media with the simple caption, “I miss you so much.”

Everyone was perplexed by what transpired before Hudson committed suicide.

The 64-year-old father, who was distraught by his suicide, stated, “He wanted a family, but he had typical life challenges that people have with finances,” Madsen added. It is [sic] astounding that he was considering his future. I simply cannot comprehend what transpired.

The Hollywood star of Once Upon a Time, Madsen, also disclosed that his kid, who had visited Afghanistan, was experiencing mental health issues underneath the happy exterior. The actor clarified that his son, who required therapy, ceased receiving assistance for matters he kept confidential. Madsen asked the military to conduct an investigation because he suspected “that officers and rank and file were shaming,” but the public has not have access to the reports.

Famous for his work on Tarantino’s violent films, Madsen was detained in Malibu, at the opulent house from which he had just been evicted, one month after Hudson committed suicide. Madsen was freed on bail after being charged with trespassing.

The actor has a criminal past; according to TMZ, he was charged with child endangerment in 2012 and DUI in 2019 when he crashed his SUV.

When the actor entered his house and discovered his teenage son using marijuana, they got into a fight. “Madsen had gotten into a physical altercation with his young son—and when police arrived, they noticed several signs of injury on his son,” according to TMZ. According to reports, Madsen also seemed to be intoxicated when he was arrested. Madsen’s name was made public, but the son’s was not.

“We are heartbroken and overwhelmed with grief and pain at the loss of Hudson,” the family said in a statement following his passing. Everyone who knew and loved him will cherish his memories and light.

In a touching ode to her spouse, whom she affectionately refers to as “Lump,” Carlie posts on Instagram on January 23, 2023, “… How it’s been a year without you is beyond me. The pain is still as bad as it was that day. Every day when I wake up and before I go to sleep at night, you are the first and final thoughts that cross my mind.

I miss you and I’m hurting more than words can express. “I only wish you would have spoken to me and told me what was happening that day,” she added. I’m really sorry that you felt that there was no other way to improve the situation. I apologise for not seeing the indications and for not being able to do more. I apologise for disappointing you. Please know that you are never far from my thoughts or presence. I love you more, Lump, and I miss you terribly.

The passing of Hudson Madsen is a tragic conclusion for a husband, best friend, son, and hero. This is the perfect moment to remind someone you know that you care about them.
