Jacqueline Bisset Speaks Out: Life, Fame, and Staying True to Herself

The way Jacqueline Bisset acts, looks and speaks is truly breathtaking.

After working in films for over 58 years and appearing in 50 movies, the actress is still as active as ever.

When Jacqueline Bisset was young
My parents thought Jacqueline Bisset was special and that’s why I have looked up to her since I was very little. I think she is one of the only actresses left who truly captures the glamour of old Hollywood.

I liked that her aging was natural and she always treated us to a genuine, down-to-earth lovely appearance. She didn’t rely on applying lots of makeup.

We find Jacqueline Bisset’s birth date to be September 13, 1944, in Weybridge, Surrey, England. As her family was interested in the arts, she developed her interest in dance and acting from an early age. From childhood, she was passionate about performance which encouraged her to pursue acting as her career.

Through many years working, Shirley MacLaine proved her talent for playing diverse roles such as a tempting spy in Casino Royale (1967), a loving mother in Sleepy Time Gal (2001), the eloquent Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in America’s Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story (2003) and Anna Karenina in the movie adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s novel, starring Christopher Reeves.

Her first-ever screen role was in Roman Polanski’s Cul-de-Sac and it was her portrayal in three films in 1968 that won her acclaim: hated detective Detective with Frank Sinatra, cool drive Steve McQueen in Bullitt and her Golden Globe-nominated part in The Sweet Ride with Tony Franciosa and Bob Denver.

You should recognize her from her roles in Day for Night (1973), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Deep (1977), Wild Orchid (1990) and her performances in Joan of Arc (1999), Dancing on the Edge (2013), Miss You Already (2015) and Birds of Paradise (2021).

Who is Jacqueline Bisset’s husband?
Bisset was given the highest honor in France, the Legion of Honor, in 2010 and in 2023, the Sedona International Film Festival honored her with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Even though she worked with top movie stars, Bisset has not gotten married yet. Frank Sinatra tried to win the leading lady over and stories spread that she was seeing Steve McQueen from the movie Bullitt. Even so, Lady Bisset pointed out that people from the East were not the same as those from Britain.

Roughly 18 months ago, I had the chance to meet Steve McQueen.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, she described him like this: “He was a little frightening, but he was also attractive.” I had a very English way of thinking and he was a very cool American. If I had to listen to him talk, it would have driven me crazy–I just didn’t understand what he meant by dude or soul chick!

She’s been involved with Canadian actor Michael Sarrazin, the ballet dancer Alexander Godunov and actor Vincent Pérez, yet claims she’s not ready for anything lasting.

Bisset revealed in an interview with the Independent that she has met some truly interesting men. There has been a lot for them to handle. It’s said that I attract difficult men. She continued, “It can Happen that people tell you more than you want to know when you spend time with them.” Bad habits start to stand out to you. I find them creeping in and then they demand you marry these bad habits and I’m not sure how to deal with them. I have never had a relationship that wasn’t good. I haven’t ever broken up when I was angry. I recently got out of circumstances that were too much for me.”

Though Bisset–Godmother to Jolie–did not become famous for her relationships, she made headlines when she won a Golden Globe for her role as Lady Cremone in Dancing on the Edge.

Her final speech, accompanied by background music to indicate her departure, was mostly just mumble, but she made it clear that at 69, she was truly grateful to finally win after 47 years as a nominee.

In 2020, she appeared as a sharp femme fatale in The Lodger, a French thriller and more recently, she was cast in Loren & Rose (2022). In the story, Rose, a well-known actress, is played by Bisset. Her reputation, however, limits her roles to those who see her as both a bit wild and sometimes inconsistent.

The director, Russell Brown, believes Rose in the film is almost the complete opposite of Bisset in person. He said, “Many viewers think that Jacqueline is as straightforward as she seems in the film.” However, I disagree–as an actress and as a woman, she is not at all like Rose and it’s proof of her talent that none of this shows through when she acts like Rose.

Bisset continues to look beautiful and age gracefully. She said at the Golden Globes: ‘If you want to look your best, you must forgive everyone.’ This treatment is better than any other.

Even with lots of complexes in her youth, she chose not to go under the knife for elective surgery. From my perspective, makeup doesn’t make you seem more youthful. As she was asked for advice, Bisset said, “It’s what makes you different.”

She is truly an amazing, honest, generous woman and an actor/artist, lighting up the celebrity world.

Jacqueline has a very grounded nature! What an elegant woman and one of the best actresses I love.

Remember Jacqueline Bisset and talk about how her 55-year career made her one of Hollywood’s top actors.
