10 Times People Made Big Purchases They Lived to Regret

Given that some people save while others spend sensibly but others use it unwisely, money is indeed a complicated issue. There are several short stories on moneys of people who lost their money unexpectedly and marvelously.

The first story is concerning a man I worked with who was in a long distance relationship with a girl he had never met live. Suddenly, she told him she could fly to meet him within a month. He had not discussed it in their previous discussions but at the time, he resided in his parents’ basement. He panicked and found a new apartment.

Then he rented a couch, tables, a dining set, a bedroom suite, a TV, and other appliances for the whole apartment from one of those furniture rental stores. The whole apartment was equipped with rental furniture, which can be very expensive if not known. Despised for who she was, the girl finally appeared after all this. She suggested to him to terminate their relationship when they reached his apartment.

She wanted to meet him at least once before texting him. She thought it would be unfair to him. She went back on the plane the next day after spending one night there. Apparently, her visit to our city was only a long layover before she departed on a tour with friends in Europe.
He

took the rented couch to sleep in; she took the rented bed. He dropped her off at the airport using his rental car the next day. I have no idea how much that one breakup cost him, but wow that was such a waste. © Reddit/Aussydog

Second Story:
I made the $50,000 decision to put a one-lane bowling alley in the basement to fulfill a childhood dream. It appeared to be the perfect means of entertaining myself and hosting parties. However, I found out that after the initial excitement congealed, no one wanted to bowl more than one or two games.

All that remains of mine is a loud, obnoxious reminder of my lack of self control. Rather than using that money to throw gutter balls all alone in my basement, I could have had 20 amazing vacations.

Story 4:
I wasted my money on a muscle-building pill “free trial”. I decided to work on my physical condition in the first year of my college studies and did not know where to start. My free bottle in the mail came after I clicked on an add saying it could help me develop muscle fast but only after I realized there were strange charges appearing on my card. Even though they had a subscription fee, they did not charge for the first bottle.

Immediately after I discovered this, I called the bank to have my card blocked, but by then a sum of money equivalent to $100 had been lost, which was a lot for me as a student to pay. I also needed to insist on the representative that, as I did not want spam calls, I wanted to be unsubscribed. © Reddit/Hoguera

Story 5:
I was defrauded by an insurance company while I was a new graduate. The hiring of any person was such a wonderful feeling to me that I was fooled to think I could gain a lot by selling people insurance that they did not need or want.

I bought a textbook for $350 for a certification exam. As I passed the test, I learned within a week that the company was a scam with cold calling and ridiculous script which would put us in trouble if we were to deviate from its terms and conditions.

Story 7:

Once I was locked out of my car one night. I did a search with Google and called the first one that appeared. I agreed after a $60 quote was received. I was charged $130 and the “lochsmith” used only the slim jim to open my door. I was compelled to pay and leave in sadness. © Reddit/El_Clinico_Magnifico

Story 8:
When I ran out of money, I had to sell a fairly expensive camera that I purchased with my first moolah and valued above all else (approx $900). After my email offer, a young man told me he was interested but he was on business trip. He promised to pay extra if any and stated it would be nice of me to send it to some place in Africa.

Apart from the fact that he never paid me anything, I also had to pay $100 on shipping. I’ve learned by the bitter experience, but the thought still breaks my heart. © Reddit/SkyhuntL

Story 10:
A romantic getaway for the weekend was made for me by my boyfriend in a five-star hotel. It felt perfect up until the time of the checkout. He turned red with shame when his card was declined. Smiling, I paid for our accommodation.

As we were leaving, I was led aside by the receptionist, who warned me while whispering in my ear, “Be careful, I’ve seen this guy use the same trick for other women.” When he comes and his card is rejected, they end up paying everything. You’re a victim of fraud!

I chose not to believe her. I had no reason to not trust him and we were still in that pioneering phase of our relationship. But with time, however, he started doing the same tricks more often. I realized he was making me to pay for other expenses like shopping excursions. Finally, his endeavour to extort my monies by pressuring me to invest in a questionable venture was the last straw.

I ended our relationship. Nevertheless, I still cannot forget that hotel stay, because it was the beginning of all, and I would like to notice that girl.
