Adam Sandler bounded out of the Dolby Theatre after Conan O’Brien singled him out among the star-studded crowd for showing up to the opulent Academy Awards in a casual attire.
A-list celebrities strutted the red carpet outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2, the day before the 97th Academy Awards, which honor the best in Hollywood.
Celebrities showed off their most stunning ensembles, which included sweeping gowns, dramatic designs, fitted suits, and an abundance of sparkle, for the season’s last major awards presentation.
Adam Sandler then appeared.

Comfortable and informal
“It’s important that everyone is appropriately dressed for such a prestigious night, okay?” asked TV comedian Conan O’Brien, 61, who was presenting the 2025 Oscars. “You’re dressed nicely. Adam…
Sandler was seated in the audience when O’Brien gave his much anticipated opening monologue, surrounded by elegant celebrities in their best Oscar gear.
“How are you, my brother, Conan?” The 58-year-old Happy Gilmore star, who was seated in an aisle seat with his Steph Curry sneakers and shorts on, shielded his head with the hood of his light blue sweatshirt. “What’s happening, dude?”
When O’Brien asks Sandler what he’s wearing, the comic stutters a little and responds, “Until you brought it up, nobody even thought about what I was wearing.”
“You’re dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m., Adam,” O’Brien continues, addressing the 50 First Dates star.
The Grown Ups star defended himself in typical Sandler fashion, saying, “You know what, I like the way I look, because I’m a good person.” It makes no difference to me what I wear or don’t wear. You had to make fun of me in front of my peers because you were so offended by my stylish workout shorts and puffy sweatshirt.
With a short apology from the stage, O’Brien grinned and looked down at the podium behind him.
“I’m going,” Sandler declared to the audience as he stood up. I have to go, I must!
“No, it’s not you, it’s him,” the comedian quipped as the audience yelled, “no!” and pleaded with him to stay.
Sandler then pointed to O’Brien, who was fighting to control his laughing during the amusing discussion, and remarked, “You caused this!”
“You are all welcome to join me for a game of five-on-five basketball at Veteran Park tonight,” Sandler said to the gathering before departing the ceremony. Tip-off at midnight. He joked, “I have the guy from Nosferatu on my team.”
Golden Globes nod
The 29-year-old Timothée Chalamet, who was nominated for his performance in the 2024 film A Complete Unknown, was the next person Sandler moved toward down the aisle.
And something else. “CHALAMET!” Before hugging the actor and leaving the Dolby theater to thunderous ovation from the crowd, Sandler said in his ear.
Host Nikki Glaser joked at the Golden Globes earlier this year that Chalamet’s name sounded like something Sandler would say in one of his signature exaggerated voices.
Many people laughed when Sandler responded in his usual Sandler style when Glaser urged him to say Chalamet’s name out loud.
